Will Santorum Take Down Arlen Specter-Mezvinsky?

August 5, 1993 — Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky casts the deciding vote in the House for President Clinton’s budget proposal which included increasing taxes on nearly all Americans. Republicans chanted, “Goodbye Marjorie,” as she cast the vote that sealed her fate as a one term Congresswoman from the suburbs of Philadelphia. She was handily defeated a year later in the Republican Revolution of 1994 by the candidate she beat just two years prior.

If the Republicans focus on 2010 as they did 1994, there will be another revolution. This time they will more than likely come up short in taking both house of Congress but a 25 – 40  seat gain in the House and 3-5 Senate seats is a goal not far out-of-reach. While Republicans plan their dethronement of Democrats in those seats it is also worth considering finally dethroning Arlen Specter.

Like Mezvinsky, Specter sold his soul to the Devil. Unlike Mezvinsky in 1994, Specter will face his greatest challenge in the 2010 primary. The conservative Republican ‘T’ which covers the northern half of Pennsylvania and the space between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in the middle to southern half is through with him. What the party needs is a candidate who knows the State well, is known in the State, and knows how to win.

That candidate is Rick Santorum. The two-term former Senator is an ideal fit for the post but may not have the heart for it. Santorum, once an up-and-comer who defeated Clinton and Kennedy family favorite, Harris Wofford, was seen in many conservative circles as having an excellent shot at the White House someday. Those lofty goals may be behind Rick but he is exactly what is needed in the Senate to combat this reckless drive towards Socialism that is being force-fed to the nation.

Rick can beat Specter-Mezvinsky but only if he makes the commitment to run sooner than later and immediately starts the process of communicating to voters in Pennsylvania and supporters nationally (read: donors) that Specter-Mezvinsky is not a friend of the GOP and is well past his ‘use by’ date.

We have seen that the Obama White House has already learned that you don’t need mass appeal to get your agenda pushed through Congress. Just single out the suckers and they will give you cover. Specter-Mezvinsky, has served Obama well and has become worse than a RINO’ he is little more than a useful idiot for the Left.
