When something is so perfectly poised for parody, it’s surprising that nobody’s done it as yet………
Oklahoma! is perhaps the seminal Broadway musical. It is surely one of the most loved, and performed.
The hired hand, Jud Fry, is the villain of sorts. Jud believes that nobody appreciates him; heck, that nobody even likes him. So, in one of the show’s quirkier moments, the hero, Curly, tries to show Jud that if he were in fact to hang himself, then everyone would realize how much they did in fact care about him.
Thus, “Poor Jud is daid!”
And has life so ever perfectly imitated art? If only!
