Note to the House GOP caucus: 300 Spartans were at Thermopylae; 260 Texans were at the Alamo; You are 240 strong - Do the right thing! Do us proud!

The last line of the Declaration of Independence:

“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence,  we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes,  and our Sacred Honor.”

Throughout time, small bands of patriots, acting with with courage of their convictions, the unshakeable belief in the virtue of their cause, have indeed changed the course of history.

Thermopylae and the Alamo come to mind, primarily for the courage displayed in those actions, but also because the numbers involved are quite close to you, the 240 ladies and gentlemen of the  House Republican caucus.

We are NOT asking you to lay down your Lives, though possibly a few of you may suffer political defeat for your actions.  If so, so be it. It is well worth it. We ARE asking you to fight for your Fortunes, and those of your children, and grandchildren, and generations to come.  If we do NOT take decisive action to finally, for once and for all, stop the financial madness that has nearly laid waste to out great nation, to restore fiscal discipline to our out of control government; then your Fortunes, and that of your heirs, will soon dissipate. So this is a battle in which you each have a deeply personal stake.

But most of all, we are asking you to reaffirm your oath of office, that on your Sacred Honor you each pledged to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

You pledged this to yourself, when you first decided to seek your current office..and then to your families, and your constituents, and  reaffirmed it when you were sworn in. We only ask that you be true to your oath.

You know what must be done, and most importantly, why it must be done HERE and NOW, and by YOU. Not 6 months, or 18 months later, not by another commision,  or study group, but by YOU!!   HERE!! NOW!!!

We voted last November to send you, 240 strong, to the House.  You know what must be done. So do us proud!
