Remember how hard the New York Times and the rest of the MSM went after Fred Thompson in 2008 and gave a pass (until the general election) to the surefire loser [mc_name name=’Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000303′ ]? (The NYT ran an article upon Thompson’s launch about him having done legal work for Planned Parenthood over 15 years earlier. Thompson, who like many pro-lifers including Reagan himself, had once been pro-choice, and had since converted and was in fact viewed pro-life enough to win NRLC’s endorsement in 2008.)
Now the MSM has turned their big guns on [mc_name name=’Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’R000595′ ] and Scott Walker, viewed by political analysts and handicappers as potentially our strongest general election candidates, and certainly the strongest ones on the conservative side of the party. And why are they the strongest? Rubio’s has the ability to evangelize new GOP voters with his unique gift of communication and rags-to-leadership story, he leads the most knowledge and forcefully on foreign policy issues particularly the radical Islamic threat, and his natural political abilities were on clear demonstration in his in his 19-point win in “purple” Florida. (It was a three-way race, a two-way analysis in a R vs. D race without Charlie Crist showed a similar margin of victory, 58-41). Walker’s successful executive experience, defeating the union thugs, and beating the liberals three times in four years in a blue state also makes him public enemy #1 for the liberal media.
Last week it was the Walker college stories, and this week the Politico and company are at it again: the latest non-story “story” is about Bush “beating” Rubio with endorsements of Florida lawmakers, even though more remain undecided than pledged to either, which if there was a story there, would be the story! Then there is the political story about Rubio (and Cruz, another MSM target who they’ve tried with some success to Palinize) topping the list of “absentee” lawmakers, not noting if any of these votes were the deciding vote on a bill (none were). The senate/house whip lets these guys know when they are needed and have to return to DC, so missing a 74-24 or 55-43 vote is completely irrelevant.
With [mc_name name=’Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’P000603′ ] and Chris Christie doing a good job of imploding on their own, the MSM is now focusing on Hillary’s biggest threats, on the winners of the Koch America Recovery Policy Forum (Rubio) and the Iowa Freedom Summit (Walker). Why don’t they go after Jeb Bush? They know he negates all Hillary’s weaknesses: lack of enthusiasm from each one’s base, lack of personality and charisma, and there sense of entitlement to the office.
Fortunately for us, I think both Rubio and Walker have more meddle than Thompson ’08 did. Hillary must be crushed, and we can’t let the MSM carry Jeb Bush’s water all the way to the nomination, before they turn on him with full force.
