Al-Qaeda in Iraq: All Christians are Legitimate Targets.

Christians across the Middle East were put on notice Wednesday by the Islamic State of Iraq – better known as the Iraqi branch of the international al-Qaeda terrorist group – that they are now “legitimate targets.”
The group said in a statement that its deadline for the release of Muslim women it claims are imprisoned by Egyptian Coptic churches had expired.
“The Ministry of War of Islamic State of Iraq declares that all the centers, organizations and bodies of Christian leaders and followers have become legitimate targets by the Mujahedeens, wherever our hands will reach them.”

Thousands of Iranians participated in a mass rally on Thursday to mark the 31st anniversary of the US embassy takeover in Teheran, news agencies reported. In November 1979, Islamic students seized the embassy and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.
Thursday’s rally was an anti-US protest with attendees chanting “death to America” as well as anti-Israel slurs. This year’s annual rally was held under tight security but without challenges from opposition groups. Last year, the pro-government event outside the former embassy compound brought clashes and chaos to central Teheran after protesters held counter-marches over their claims of massive vote rigging in the June 2009 presidential election.
But it was among the last major displays of opposition anger on the streets as embattled authorities stepped up crackdowns and threats to quell the most serious domestic unrest since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. This year, security forces were on high alert for any hints of dissent.
PA Prime Minister Qureia
Israeli security officials said on Wednesday that the decision to deny Qureia entrance into Jordan with his car was influenced in part by his recent statements against Israel. “These statements are unjustified and tendentious,” one official said.
Queria recently said that the Palestinians have many options if the peace negotiations fail, including resistance. PA officials said that Israel’s actions are a punishment for his positions.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has approved the terms of a final agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, wrote former president Bill Clinton in a New York Times op-ed marking the assassination of prime minister Yitzak Rabin on Thursday.
“Because of the terms accepted in late 2000 by Prime Minister Ehud Barak, supported in greater detail by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and approved by President Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinians,” he wrote, “everyone knows what a final agreement would look like.”
“They blew 10 years and complicated the problem demographically by not doing this in 2000. It must be done,” he said.
I’m not sure in what manner or in what order to comment on any of this, so I’ll simply refrain and prevent my head from exploding.
