Here’s how it started:

A US egg producer has recalled more than 200 million chicken eggs apparently contaminated with salmonella bacteria after hundreds of reported cases of illness, the FDA reported.

The eggs were produced by Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa, and sold around the country under 143 different brands, and are packed in boxes of six, 12 and 18 eggs.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it had been investigating since late June. It found almost four times the usual rate of salmonella-related illness being reported, an FDA statement said. Salmonella can cause intestinal infections and is transmitted by foods contaminated by animal fecal matter.

…….and according to teh gubmint, it doesn’t cost anything, because the private sector – companies like Wright County Eggs, Inc., are just a bunch of greedy evil Capitalists using a vacuum to suck money from people’s pockets.

Recall expands to more than half a billion eggs.

Half a billion eggs have been recalled in the nationwide investigation of a salmonella outbreak that has already sickened more than 1,000 people.

Iowa’s Hillsdale Farms said Friday it was recalling more than 170 million eggs after laboratory tests confirmed salmonella. The company did not say if it is connected to Wright County Egg, another Iowa farm that recalled 380 million eggs earlier this week.

Wright County Egg actually recalled almost 400,000,000 eggs, not the 200,000,000 initially reported.
