“I say this again as someone who has walked that border,” she said. “I’ve ridden that border. I’ve flown it. I’ve driven it. I know that border I think as well as anyone, and I will tell you it is as secure now as it has ever been.”
Janet Napolitano said that on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in response to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who was questioning her during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the oversight of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). According to a CNSNews.com article from April 29, 2010:
Before being appointed secretary of Homeland Security, Napolitano served as the governor and attorney general of Arizona, where currently an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants reside. Arizona is also the state with the most illegal border crossings.
Lindsey Graham had a lot of RINOish things to say in response; please refer to the above link for the full article and video of the confrontation. Here is the final kicker:
“Six, seven years ago, the number of illegal apprehensions in Tucson sector of the border was over 600,000, now is 200 [thousand],” said Napolitano.
“The Border Patrol is better staffed than at any point in its history — more than 20,000 personnel,” she said. “Since 2004, the number of boots on the ground along the southwest border has increased by 80 percent.”
Fast forward to yesterday. Once again, Napolitano, in a classic, cover Obama’s ass move made some brilliant remarks at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC in a joint event with Mexico’s Interior Minister. According to the Washingtontimes.com:
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Tuesday the U.S.-Mexico border is not as secure as it could be, though she contended that the Obama administration has shown an “absolute laserlike focus on that border.”
Laserlike? Does that mean when he referred to Jan Brewer’s signing of SB1070 as “misguided”? THAT laserlike? Or like the laserlike focus he’s shown for the oil spill off the coast of Louisiana; which took him EIGHT days to respond to at all. Hmmm… it’s so hard to tell with him. But, I digress.
Miss Napolitano, who last year kicked off the immigration debate by saying the border was secure enough and it was time to turn to legalization, said Tuesday there’s still more work to be done.
“It is as safe and secure as it’s ever been, but it can be more safe and more secure,” she said at a joint event with Mexico’s interior minister at the Brookings Institution in Washington.
It’s as safe as it’s ever been, but it could be safer??? Can you imagine for just one little moment what the uproar would be if George W. Bush has made a statement like that? That is the most bizarre and ridiculous thing I’ve ever … well, no, considering this administration, it really isn’t.
But she also said the immigration situation won’t be solved until Congress and voters get beyond a focus on the border and address future flows of immigrants and temporary workers, as well as the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.
And another thing that really REALLY kills me. This is NOT about immigrants. Americans LOVE immigrants. America was BUILT on immigration and immigrants. It is the people that come here ILLEGALLY that irritate us, that infuriate us, that scare us and anger us. Because those people have no stake in America. They don’t CARE about this country. Why should they? They have nothing vested in her. They have no REASON to care. They walk across the border with a devil may care attitude (and believe me, the devil couldn’t care less), and put their hand out, and our government just slaps whatever they want into it. But, the people that try to come here by following the rules; they go through literal HELL to become citizens. How fair is that? Why should we give the lawbreakers a free ride? Why would anyone try to become citizens legally when they see these other slobs just waltz in and get it for nothing? It isn’t right.
And Janet, darling… get a clue. You’re hopeless. You’re an embarrassment. Well, hell. You’re exactly what Obama adores.
