If you don’t want to click on those links (and I wouldn’t blame you), they accuse Machado of having an “anchor baby” with a Mexican drug lord, driving the getaway car for a murder, issuing death threats against a judge, and appearing in hard core porn videos.
I don’t know if all (or any) of these accusations are true. They seem over the top, so I doubt it. But even if every accusation is 100% accurate, it’s irrelevant and here is why:
Trump has a long history of saying denigrating things about women…publicly. He has a long history of saying bigoted things about Hispanics. He has a long history of hurling childish insults. Even if we didn’t have tape of Trump calling Machado an “eating machine,” are we really supposed to believe he would balk at calling her “Miss Piggy” or “Miss Housekeeping?”
Alicia Machado could be the worst person on planet Earth, but the fact remains that her behavior has nothing to do with the Trump’s character or lack thereof. Whatever Machado did or didn’t do has no bearing on whether it’s acceptable for a grown man seeking an office held by giants of history like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln to hurl insults at others like a prepubescent bully or invent nicknames based on ethnic stereotypes in an effort to belittle and demean.
Adults know each person is responsible for their own behavior. Machado is responsible for hers, and Trump is responsible for his. If Trump finds his own behavior reflects poor character, and that’s politically inconvenient, perhaps he should behave differently. Or maybe he man up and apologize.
As for Trump’s surrogates attacking Machado in Trump’s defense, these are the same “conservatives” who would have us throw our principles overboard to defeat Hillary because Trump is supposedly the lesser of two evils. They are using the tried and true Democrat method of discrediting someone saying something they don’t like with smears. Excuse me if Trump surrogates behaving like Hillary’s own Bimbo Eruption Squad doesn’t convince me to hop onboard.
