Reagan caused Global Warming

Ronald Reagan caused global warming
so Ronald Reagan is responsible for Al Gore’s Academy Award

A caused B, B caused C, therefore A caused C

In a very interesting sequence of events, it turns out that Al Gore needs to thank Ronald Reagan for the Academy Award that he was awarded in 2006. Al Gore received an Academy Award for the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.”

In a recent report from the U.S. Senate environmental sub-committee*, a significant cause of the statistical increase in average global temperature has been the reduction in temperature reporting stations in the former Soviet Union. The number of reporting weather stations around the world down from a high of 15,000 in 1970 to 5,000 in 2000*.

This meant that the much lower temperatures that these 10,000 stations in extreme northern climates (Russia and Siberia)would have reported were not included in the averages. This artificially increased the global average temperature by not including lower numbers that had previously been included. At this same time there was no corresponding reduction in temperature reporting stations in warmer climates.

Ronald Reagan is frequently credited with bringing down the Soviet Union. Reagan’s high tech and high cost modernization of weapons including the much ballyhooed “Star Wars” that they Soviets had to match bankrupted the USSR. The Soviet economy just couldn’t afford the military expenditures necessary to keep up with the western economies. Reagan also challenged Gorbechev to “tear down this wall”, which led to the reunification of the two Germanys.

The fall of the Soviet Union led to a massive decrease by government spending. This reduction in spending included a reduction from 15,000 down to 5,000 weather reporting stations. Fewer reporting stations resulted in fewer low temperatures to be included in global average temperature calculations. At this same time there was no corresponding reduction in temperature reporting stations in warmer climates.

Here is the flow: A caused B, B caused C, therefore A caused C
A) Regan’s political pressure caused the fall of the Soviet Union
B) With the fall of the Soviet Union, there were fewer temperature reporting stations in the north regions of Russia and Siberia
a. Fewer reporting stations resulted in fewer accurate temperature reports being included in global average temperature calculation
C) Some scientists, and others including Al Gore, cite higher average global temperatures in their arguments supporting global warming

This flow resulted in Al Gore being awarded the Academy Award for his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.
