Open NY House Election News

With the announcement of Kristen Gillibrand to the Senate it provides Republicans with an opportunity to regain the seat and start cutting at the Democrats advantage in House.  There will be no primary; the decision about who gets the nomination is up to the leaders of the 10 county parties. The 20th spans all or parts of 10 counties — Washington, Warren, Saratoga, Rensselaer, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Essex, Greene and Otsego.

The Saratoga County Republican Committee has endorsed Assembly Minority leader Jim Tedisco as their candidate for Congress. The formal announcement came Saturday.  Tedisco is not a resident of the district but his current Assembly seats fills most of the current 20th district.  Saratoga compromises about 30% of the 20th district.

Fmr Senator and Gov nominee Faso is running as is Senator Betty Little who represents a lot of the small towns that compromise the 20th congressional district.

A meeting of the 10 Republican county party leaders has been called for Tuesday at state Republican headquarters, said Rensselaer County Republican Chairman Jack Casey.

The democrats running are: Saratoga County Democratic chairman Larry Bulman; Carol A. Schrager, a Hunter attorney; former New York Rangers goalie Michael Richter; Coxsackie Town Supervisor Alex Betke; and Assemblyman Tim Gordon. Tracey Brooks, who came in second in a 21st Congressional District seat primary, also was mentioned.
