Senate/Congress News/Rumors (Obama Moves Create Openings)

OH 15 Open Seat

Supporters of 15th Congressional District candidate Steve Stivers have won their fight to not count about 1,000 provisional ballots in a lawsuit against Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled 4 to 2 that Brunner (D) “abused her discretion by providing different counties with differing instructions on whether these ballots should be counted,” the court wrote in its decision.

Stivers leads by about 600 votes.

Word comes today that Caroline Kennedy is very interested in Open Clinton Seat.  2 other woman have surfaces as well including Congresswoman Maloney and Congresswoman Gillibrand.  If later race opens up Republicans have a chance to take back seat Sweeney held before being ousted in 2006.

Obama is likely to tap Congressman Sestack for Sec of Navy position and if this does happen Republicans have a chance to take back the slightly lean Republican seat that Weldon held for many years before his ethical problems lead to his ouster.

The Kansas City Star says the three leading candidates for secretary of agriculture in the Obama administration are Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D), Rep. John Salazar (D-CO) and Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA)

The Lt Gov in Kansas is a Dem but if either of the other 2 openings happen (especially Salazar seat) then Republicans may be able to pick up another seat.
