Foxnews, dateline reports—“ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast– United Nations and French helicopters have fired rockets on the residence of Ivory Coast strongman Laurent Gbagbo, who is holed up in a bunker, residents said Sunday.
You have no doubt been hearing and reading about this story. Note Fox identifies Gbagbo as strongman Laurent Gbagbo; a rather derisive designation bordering on an ad hominem mugging. The Fox story goes on to declare:
Gbagbo has been living in a bunker in his residence in Abidjan for nearly a week. After a decade in power, he still refuses to step aside even though the United Nations has ruled that he lost the November presidential election to Alassane Ouattara.
The “United Nations ruled?” Why does the U.N. have a say in anything (it’s a rhetorical question, I know the answer.)? However the U.N. is nothing if it is not a bunch of communists, socialists, third-world tyrants and a generally slimy malcontents. The U.N. should have nothing to do with national elections of any sovereign countries? Oh I know they have tried to interfere in the American process and would if possible and our “esteemed” alien presidente Obama would love to invite them in.
Remember Fox (News Corp.) must lose some of its credibility especially on stories involving Islam when one realizes the fact, not speculation, but fact that seven percent (7%) of News Corp. is owned by Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal. This is the same Saudi Prince who funded the “Ground Zero Mosque Imam” to the tune of 300 Grand. But I digress.
What is that the truth of the Fox story? Jerome Corsi’s Red Alert reports it a bit differently. The Red Alert story headlines— Christians Massacred by Muslims, Obama directs U.S. policy to support radical Islam. The dynamics of this Ivory Coast cataclysm are reported by Red Alert thus:
The current president, Laurent Gbagbo, is locked in a controversy with challenger Alassane Ouattara over the contested results of a Nov. 28 election. The Ivory Coast Election Commission, or CEI, declared Ouattara the winner with 54.1 percent of the vote, only to have the Constitutional Council nullify the CEI’s decision and declare that Gbagbo won with 51 percent of the vote after votes attributed to voter fraud were thrown out [sounds familiar huh? Italics mine].
Most of the international community, including the United Nations, the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS, has rejected this result, declaring instead that Ouattara is the legitimate winner. Both Gbabgo and Ouattara have taken competing oaths of office, with each claiming to be the legitimate winner of the Nov. 28 election. Now, for what’s really going on.
Gbagbo is a Christian who is supported mainly by Christians that dominate the southern part of the Ivory Coast. Ouattara is a Muslim who is supported mainly by Muslims that dominate the northern part of the Ivory Coast (emphasis mine).
Today (April 11) Foxnews.com reports “Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton [always on the righteous side of every issue] says the arrest of Ivory Coast strongman Laurent Gbagbo sends a strong signal to dictators and tyrants about the consequences of ignoring the people’s will.
The really horrific news is the result of the “demonstration of compassion” by Ouattara is this.
In a report issued last week, Human Rights Watch documented that forces loyal to Ouattara killed hundreds of civilians and raped more than 20 alleged Gbagbo supporters as they burned at least 10 villages in the Ivory Coast’s western region.
“People interviewed by Human Rights Watch described how, in village after village, pro-Ouattara forces, now called the Republican forces of (Forces Républicaines Côte d’Ivorie, FRCI) summarily executed and raped Gbagbo supporters in their homes, as they worked in the fields, as they fled, or as they tried to hide in the bush,” the report noted. “The fighters often targeted people by ethnicity, and the attacks disproportionately affected those too old or feeble to flee.”
On Saturday, reports from the Ivory Coast published by the London Evening Standard indicate that more than 200 bodies, some of them burned alive, have been found in the country (emphasis mine).
The Fox report continued saying:
Clinton said dictators should take notice that they cannot disregard “the voice of their own people in free and fair elections“[italics mine]. She said there will be consequences for those who cling to power [unless of course you’re Qaddafi or Ahmadinejad]. International Criminal Court prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo has begun preliminary examination of possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ivory Coast, including accusations against forces seeking to install Ouattara.
I guess we could say Côte d’Ivorie is a blue state. Chalk up another win for Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood and a loss for freedom.
