Good Tuesday to you. Tuesday’s edition of the Water Cooler is dedicated to the wacky, wild, woolly world of the culture wars.
Celebretard of the Week
This week’s coveted and dubious award goes to um, er… former Republican Governor of California and muscleman, Arnold Schwarzenenegger. Having struck out in politics and, given the fate of recent movies, acting, the Arnold has taken to social justice. Besides complaining about gerrymandering and forming a fundraising site where he has hooked up with such notable luminaries as Eric Holder, George Soros’ Common Cause and Robert Reich, he has also found a new cause- climate change.
Said the Austrian moron, “It’s absolutely irresponsible to know that your product is killing people and not have a warning label on it, like tobacco… Every gas station on it, every car should have a warning label on it.” To wit, he will be attending an R20 Summit to discuss climate change. And what is the purpose of R20? It keeps Arnie significant, if only for a few fleeting minutes.
A Close Runner-Up This Week
I suppose he could be a celebretard, but this one merits special mention. Jim Carrey, the actor/comedian who used to be funny, thankfully hasn’t entered the woods, grown a beard and emerged a warrior against global warming a la Al Gore. Instead, he now fancies himself a painter and he dabbles in political art.
His latest attempt at art depicts White Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders which he tweeted to the world with: “This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked. Monstrous!” He managed to catch some flack on social media.
Its funny how conservative women can be the object of ridicule and scorn by so-called artists who happened to be formerly so-called comedians, especially in these days of hands-off all things “women.” One supposes that we are thankful he did not depict Sanders with a decapitated head.
Feminists Eating Feminists
Speaking of feminists, it is also kind of funny to see them eating their own. Every year, a bunch of feminists in Norway have what is known as the Feminine Tripper Festival where femininity and gender roles are explored through the performing arts. Translated this means that a bunch of women in tights get together, dance and writhe and shriek about the patriarchy. All feminists are invited…all, that is, except those from Israel.
The stated reason by the organizers?
Israel uses culture as a form of propaganda to whitewash or justify its regime of occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people …and, therefore, with a clear conscience invite Israeli participants when we know that artists from the occupied Palestinian territories struggle with very restricted access to travel to international art venues and that they have little opportunity to communicate their art outside of the occupied territories.
The Israeli dancing harpies did not take the rejection lying down and questioned whether any Saudi dancers were banned also.
Can You Say “Anti-Semitic?”
An organization known as Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) has come under recent fire for some member social media posts that are, to say the least, anti-Semitic (surprise). Some of the comments included: “How many Jews died in the Holocaust? Not enough” and “Had to write about a leader for DCL class. Wrote about Hitler. Cuz he’s the boss,” and other such sentiments.
For the record, SJP was founded by Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian who in 2001 called for an intifada in the US. They also receive funds from Hamas funneled to American campuses by another group- American Muslims for Palestine, itself headed by Bazian. They, in turn, are also behind the college BDS movement. Neither the Muslim Student Association nor the SJP has, to date, condemned the offensive messages.
Another Brilliant Idea Courtesy of Keith Ellison
The infinitely stupid Keith Ellison, a Congressman from Minnesota, DNC vice-chair and former member of the Nation of Islam recently doubled down on his idea of a maximum wage. To hell with that mythical $15/hour meme. Believing he was joking, he responded to the reporter’s question by stating it was no joke, but a real idea.
Under this idea, anyone making 20 times more than the lowly-paid hamburger flipper, for example, would have that extra income taxed at 100%. So, say the hamburger flipper makes $10 an hour. Any executive making the equivalent of $200/hour (like a CEO or regional manager) would have that excess income taxed.
The Never-Ending Spoiled Brat Alert
Keeping stupid kids in the news a la the March For Our Lives- also known as stupid kids behaving stupidly- some fine students at Bonita High School in LaVerne, California decided it was amusing to print a cartoon of Donald Trump as a Nazi and a police officer in KKK garb pointing a gun at a black baby holding a bag of Skittles.
Local police did not find it amusing and many parents complained when the cartoon showed up in Paw Prints, the school newspaper. After the complaints were received, the offending cartoons were taken down. The author of the piece claimed it was an exercise in using artwork to broach controversial subjects. One wonders why these fine students never “used artwork to broach controversial subjects” when Obama was President.
And This Would Not Be Complete Without a Shout Out to the March for Our Lives Cretins
And speaking of that March for Our Lives, as has been mentioned on this site, as speaker after speaker used their First Amendment rights to diss the Second Amendment rights of others, it was armed police that protected the spoiled little brats. Not only them, but several of the celebrities who appeared or lent financial support have been revealed as the hypocrites they are. For example, folks like George Clooney, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Will Smith and Justin Timberlake used armed security guards. Apparently the 2nd Amendment applies to their bodyguards and the armed police that protected the hissy fit site.
It should have been titled the March of the Pimple-Faced Pompous Ass Know Nothing Hypocrites. Other writers here at Redstate have noted the armed security that protected the marchers and speakers this past weekend.
Well, that’s it for this week. Remember: the Water Cooler is an open thread where readers are free to discuss these or any other item.
