Initial Reactions to the Second Debate

This is sort of like a word association test, actually sentence association and will be very brief:

Jeb Bush- did OK, but had to do better than OK.  Did not help himself.

Chris Christie- held his own in limited time.  Best line was the sarcastic congratulations to Fiorina and Trump for being successful business people.  Images of the old Christie sans bullying…

Ben Carson- think he tried to be too nice, quite frankly.

Donald Trump- confirmed: he’s there for entertainment value.  We know!  We know! You’re #1 in the polls, but that is not a specific policy proposal.  And what was that line regarding Paul’s looks all about?  That’s right- entertainment.  He is proving himself to be a big windbag jerk.

[mc_name name=’Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’P000603′ ]- inconsequential.  He’s toast and should follow Perry- exit stage right.

Mike Huckabee- been there, heard that.  Yawn.

[mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ]- seemed not there at times. Maybe it is some political rope-a-dope strategy waiting out the opponents…

Carly Fiorina- showed she belonged on that stage, or as my wife said, “she has some big balls.”  Best line of the night delivered against Trump over her looks.

Scott Walker- not a break out moment for him which is what he needed.  Well, there is still the October debate.  He’s just there is the impression I got.

John Kasich- someone else said it, but he does a good Bob Dole impersonation.  Maybe in another year…like 1983, but not 2016.  He was a loser tonight.

[mc_name name=’Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’R000595′ ]- made great use of limited time and came off earnest.  He really should be higher in the polls.
