Diary

About This Army Maj. Cook...

There is already a diary on this topic here at RedState, but seeing as it mostly deals with the conspiracy side of things I wanted to write something that tried to cover the facts of the case up until this point.

The first thing we should understand is that U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook volunteered to go, I actually did not know this until recently, but back in May he asked to be sent to Afghanistan, in June the Army accepted, then one month later he sues to get out.

Now there is one other little piece of information that needs to be known at this point.  Back in March Mr Cook joined a class action lawsuit challenging President Obama’s Authority as CinC.  So this guy volunteers for something he could have just asked to be rescinded up until the day of the deployment.

“A reserve soldier who volunteers for an active duty tour may ask for a revocation of orders up until the day he is scheduled to report for active duty,” Quon said.

The military in response to the lawsuit has rescinded his deployment orders, and asked about the situation a representative from CENTCOM responded:

“Maj. Cook volunteered for the one year assignment to Afghanistan, in May of this year,” said Speaks. “After he brought this stuff to the fore, the unit that owned his billet canceled his orders.”

It also appears that Major Cook has also been fired from his private contracting job with the DOD.  At this point no charges have been filed against Major Cook.

So why would someone who never had to go in the first place, who obviously felt Obama was illegitimate before even volunteering do just that?  I hesitate to guess, but at best this guy seems to be looking for attention.

Since this diary is a little short I wanted to end with a quote from another diary (DailyKos 🙁 ) that actually convinced me to write this one.

So it’s disgraceful to see that you-a field grade Army Officer-would decide to put nothing but a conspiracy theory above the lives of the Soldiers that you would be commanding. As an Army Officer, I’m sure you’re aware of the reality that since your orders were revoked, the military is going to send another Soldier in your place. If they die, it’s on you. If any of the Soldiers you abandoned die, I hope you remember that it’s because you abandoned them.

You can claim all the b.s. reasons you want for not going to war, but the truth is that you’re nothing but a coward…
