Moderates in the Taliban?

“There may be opportunities to reach out to moderates in the Taliban, but the situation in Afghanistan is more complicated than the challenges the American military faced in Iraq, Obama said.”

The above quote from President Obama puzzles me. I don’t know that there are any “moderates” in the Taliban. What exactly constitutes a moderate? Is it someone that just wants to kill some of us infidels? Perhaps one that only wants to maim us? Or maybe someone who doesn’t necessarily want to strap bombs to children, but is still cool with the idea of men and women self-terminating in a quest to kill as many infidels as possible? Perhaps a moderate Talibani is someone who simply strongly dislikes the Jews instead of hating them with such intensity as to suggest annihilating them via nuclear weapons?

I don’t know. Of course, one would have to imagine that President Obama’s version of a moderate and mine would be very different. He seems to think it’s funny when reporters ask him the very realistic question as to whether or not he is a socialist. Apparently having the government take over everything and spending more money than currently exists in the world in one spending bill doesn’t rise to the level of socialism.

He also suggests that we get chummy with Iran as I previously reported in hopes that they can help us figure out what to do in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Great idea. That Ahmadinejad is a gem.

Now President Obama has decided to get all warm and fuzzy with Cuba.

So to be clear…in a mere 2 months’ time, President Obama has alienated all of the democracies living in the shadow of Russia, offended the British and Israelis and worked to become fast friends with Iran, Syria, Hamas, Cuba, Russia, and the Taliban.

Does anyone else see a problem with this vision of the world? Why don’t you take that list of new friends and see if you can come up with common traits that they all share. If you came up with words like “dictatorships” “communists” “socialists” and “terrorists” you would be correct.

The only good thing about that is that President Obama is so exhausted by the economic troubles here at home that he might not get around to sucking up to those folks for awhile. After all, his recession-induced exhaustion caused him to become confused and give DVDs to the British Prime Minister and that’s supposed to make us feel better about it. Apparently reading speeches from a TelePrompTer from time to time and nominating extremists and tax-evaders takes a lot out of a guy.

Good thing those government bailouts are working. I can’t wait to see the world peace that will ensue after meeting with the Taliban “moderates!” They will fit right in with the moderate governing style of our commander-in-chief.
