See No Evil: The Obama Foreign Policy

One of the major concerns conservatives have had with candidate Obama has been his seriously warped view of world politics and foreign policy. Candidate Obama did everything in his power to get into the good graces of the left wing fringe of the party to unseat her royal highness and heir apparent Hillary Clinton, the powerful front runner and New York native (wink wink.) While many on the right including Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Governor Sarah Palin, sought to point out the dangers of Obama’s worldview and what that meant for America, many were distracted by domestic concerns and economic woes. With a wink and a nod to his radical supporters and ideological soul mates, Candidate Obama tried to assure the American people that his critics were wrong.

In typical Obama fashion, he tried to distract from the radical extremism of his actions by using softer and kinder words to bring his image into the mainstream. His political motto seems to be “pay no attention to the radical behind the speaker” as his actions continue to underscore an extremist left-wing, socialist, and often anti-American agenda that is often shrouded in flowery words meant to distract the American people and provide talking points for the sycophantic liberal media. He does this in every area of his agenda. In a recent example, he spent more in one spending bill than all of the previous presidents combined and immediately after increasing the federal deficit to off-the-chart heights, he held a summit about fiscal responsibility. In another, he claimed to be against censorship and the “Fairness Doctrine” while secretly promoting the “Fairness Doctrine” under another name. You get the idea.

So it should be no surprise that foreign policy would be the same. During the campaign, Obama selected scrappy Joe Biden to run with him as an attempt to shore up his foreign policy credentials and spent a good share of his debate time trying to sound tough about attacking Pakistan (which was probably a big surprise to them) in order to get Bin Laden. When he wasn’t chastising our military for “air-raiding villages and killing civilians,” Obama was trying to assure middle America that he wasn’t a left-wing nutcase who would leave America open to attack.

A telling moment of how President Obama saw the world came during Russia’s outright invasion of Georgia in the summer of 2008. Immediately after Russia’s first move in re-establishing the USSR, John McCain was swift in his condemnation of their actions. Obama, however, was on vacation which only allowed enough time to opine about the shirtless photos circulating of him and his love of seaweed wrapped SPAM, but not foreign policy issues. When he finally did free up some time in his schedule to address the subject, his statement was the pithy yet powerful:

“I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict. Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war. Georgia’s territorial integrity must be respected. All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis.”

Only a man incapable of seeing evil aggression for what it is could look at a situation where one country is invaded by another and urge “restraint” on the part of both countries. In a post-modern world where right and wrong no longer exist, it is expected that those no longer bound by the cords of reason and logic would find it impossible to classify evil as evil. It is disturbing, however, when one of those folks becomes the leader of the free world.

George W. Bush, love him or hate him, was clear on this. Dictators, communists and terrorists were bad. Crazy and evil people were in positions of power and they were not legitimized by normalizing relations with them or giving in to their psychotic demands to the world that they seek to dominate. People who thought it trendy and chic to strap bombs to themselves; deny the Holocaust; discuss slaughtering the Jews, the Christians, and Americans via nuclear annihilation and other means of carnage and depravity were to be slapped down not coddled.

Yet, President Obama seems not to get this (no doubt a lesson he learned from his political mentor Bill Ayers.) He has recently followed-up his moral ambiguity on the Georgia and Russia situation with a top secret pledge (no word yet on whether President Obama and Czar Putin sealed the deal with a top secret freedom-crushing communist handshake) to stop plans on a missile shield that was promised by President Bush to the vulnerable democracies of Poland, the Czech Republic and even, if only symbolically, Georgia. These plans were scrapped because they made Russia mad. This is the same Russia that has been a thorn in the side of America and free people everywhere. The same Russia who defied the world to provide nuclear materials and/or technologies to Iran despite the clearly unstable psychotic intent that their “president” has verbalized over and over again to use such materials to destroy America and Israel. (Even, I might add, in an address to Columbia University at the invitation of one of President Obama’s dearest friends.) This same Russia that bullies its neighbors, and continues its own march back into the cold embrace of communism, will somehow be the key to restoring the sanity and general good-will of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. If we but scrap our missile defense and throw our allies under the bus, Russia will magically transform the leader of Iran into a peace-loving defender of freedom.

This view is, at best, naive, and at worst, an intentional step towards weakening our position in the world in order to pursue a radical re-making of America into a socialist utopia right out of Karl Marx’s wildest dreams. President Obama’s record suggests the latter.

This left-wing agenda is evident in every aspect of President Obama’s agenda on foreign policy. Just this week, he has pledged to begin hatching a “Global New Deal” along with Britain. (And you thought that bailing out everyone and their mom in America was fun!) He has directed his State Department to fund the re-building of Babylon in Iraq (he finally found something in Iraq he’s willing to spend money on!) He has called for massive spending cuts in the defense department, the closing of Guantanamo Bay and other “secret prisons” and has declared the War on Terror over in not so many words.

He even gave insurgents, and Al-Qaeda reason to rejoice by bolding declaring in the “see no evil” peace-loving tones reminiscent of Cindy Sheehan:

“Let me say this as plainly as I can,” he said. “By August 31, 2010, our combat mission in Iraq will end.”

This administration’s foreign policy is reckless and dangerous. The world that treats President Obama like a celebrity does so only to curry favor. They see in President Obama a man who will blink–a paper tiger, if you will. Ronald Reagan taught us that sometimes America needs to make the hard choices and be willing to walk away from the table. President Obama is going against the lessons of history as he seeks to do the opposite.

The reality is that President Obama is already actively pursuing a left-wing foreign policy that would make Jimmy Carter blush. The American people need to open their eyes and hold President Obama accountable now. A very real and dangerous threat is gathering and the leader of the free world has his head in the sand. Leaping from the pages of history above the noise and rhetorical gymnastics of the Obama administration, the voice of Edmund Burke can be heard reminding us that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. Stand up for your country and do it today.
