It’s often called the Acela Primary, where 5 Northeast states hold primaries today. It’s no surprise that the Trump train is predicted to sweep them all, leaving it mathematically impossible for Cruz to win the nomination on the first ballot. All but RI are closed primaries and all polls close at 8pm EDT:
Connecticut (with 28 delegates), Delaware (16 delegates), Maryland (38 delegates), Pennsylvania (17 delegates) and Rhode Island (19 delegates).
He Should, She Should
There really is more drama on the Dem side than ours, well at least as much. Clinton is sick and tired of Bernie and her true nature of being a nasty old woman is showing in her latest testy interviews. When asked by Rachel Maddow what she would do to reach out to the Sander’s voters after wrapping up the nomination, she said he should bring them over to her side.
Yet, Bernie said it’s Clinton’s responsibility to reach out to his voters. As many as 25% of Bernie supporters claim they will never vote for her. Let’s hope they keep their word.
Foghorns in MD
Maryland will decide their nominee to replace Sen. Mikulski and the race between Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD) and Rep. Chris Van Holland has gotten ugly. Edwards contends that her own party is using rightwing tactics against her:
….and recently accused the party of using a racial “foghorn” to thwart her campaign in favor of that of her competitor.
“I’m dumbfounded by Democrats who don’t see the value of race and gender as part of a mix of who we are on public and private lives,” she said. “It’s sad to have Democrats using terms like ‘identity politics’–those are not our words. Those are the words of the right.”
In another sign of trouble for her, only a few members of the Congressional Black Caucus have endorsed Edwards, and it has decided not to endorse her through its political arm. Me thinks Holland will win today.
This is hilarious. Trump has sided with Bernie in calling the race rigged against him and suggested that Bernie should run as a 3rd Party Independent! These are Trump’s best words yet:
“Bernie Sanders has been treated terribly by the Democrats—both with delegates & otherwise,” Trump tweeted Tuesday. “He should show them, and run as an Independent!”
Not to be outdone, a few weeks ago Bernie said “Don’t underestimate him.” Sanders said Trump knows how to manipulate the media “very effectively.”
If those two teamed up, they would beat Clinton for sure. Of course we have no idea what they would do to our country and I shutter at the very thought. shhhh.
Only 10 More to Go
That’s right folks. After tonight’s primaries there are just 10 more states left to vote. We are nearing the end of this wild wild primary season. What comes next is anyone’s guess. So revel in the thought that the end is near.
As always, the Watercooler is an open thread. Feel free to opine on whatever’s on your mind. And since it’s election day, we’ll stay open late and leave the lights on just for you. Happy Tuesday!
