A Case Study: Yep, Congress Has Repealed A Bad Healthcare Law Before Now...Almost.

They say history repeats itself. Maybe events do but not always the outcome. Case in point. Congress passed a Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act in 1988 but quickly realized it wouldn’t work. Seniors rose up in indignation and disgust over the costs and Congress retreated in response to The People. It Sounds remarkably similar to the high risk pool in O’care called the CLASS Act that was promptly shut down by HHS 19 months later but in this case, it was the government’s call to cancel the program.

For once, we witnessed Congressional restraint after overreach and a presidential leader that realized it erred and quickly repealed a bad law. It could happen again given resolute lawmakers and an invigorated repeal campaign by The People. Sadly, the good ole days are gone and the federal government won’t restrain itself. Of course the Democrats want you to believe the shutdown was just awful and the Republicans acted unreasonably but they’d be wrong. Since 1976, there have been 18 shutdowns and the Democrats held the House 15 of 18 times. Just the facts ma’am. We have two more chances to defund or delay this mess.

Please stop and read this article, “Retreat in Congress; The Catastrophic-Care Debacle – A special report.; How the New Medicare Law Fell on Hard Times in a Hurry”, and then come back. Really. Here’s the article in the NY Times from 1989, which is eerily similar in language and players today (McCain and Waxman):

But who knew best where this federal healthcare takeover would lead? That’d be President Reagan. He must have been blessed with future vision as his predictions were spot on:

When legislation that would become Medicare was introduced in 1961, Reagan created a recording for the American Medical Association warning that such legislation would mean the end of freedom in America. Reagan said that if his listeners did not write letters to prevent it, “we will awake to find that we have socialism. And if you don’t do this, and if I don’t do it, one of these days, you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children’s children, what it once was like in America when men were free.

He revealed his ideological motivation in a famed speech delivered on October 27, 1964: “The Founding Fathers knew a government can’t control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing.” He also said, “You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream – the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order – or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. He also joined the National Rifle Association and would become a lifetime member

If the awesome seniors back in the ’80’s were able to effect change by snail mail and phone calls, just think what we could do now.  I think we can still overturn this law with enough pressure.

I have a plan. Telephone Receiver and Light BulbWe need to flood the Democratic rulers communications. They are the lawmakers that need a wake up call. They made us eat their dog food that they refuse to eat.

RS readers and all Republicans, Independents and Conservatives and even upset Democrats need to melt the phone lines to tell them to reverse course. Congress should stand up against this president and stand with The People; they will be there long after this president is gone.

If you’re like me in a red state, feel free to tell Reid, Pelosi, McConnell and Boehner your thoughts. One is allowed to contact the top leaders even if you don’t reside in their state on their website. Not to mention other methods to let them know your thoughts.

We can still overturn this law if we focus our efforts. As it collapses in front of our eyes, the Democrats and perhaps the president may be willing to call uncle. But not without us telling them our disdain for this disaster that will irrevocally ruin our country. We need to put the fear into the uncompromising Democrats that we will vote them out if they don’t reverse course.

house.of.cardsObamacare is a sham. It’s a house of cards. It’s no different than an illegal pyramid scheme that many have been throw in jail for or a brazen fraud scheme concocted by Bernie Madoff. Every promise the president made for years he’s broken. He sold us a bill of goods and doesn’t care that more people are losing their healthcare policies than have started to apply.

What he sold us was the ability for some to get a very expensive piece of paper that verifies they have an insurance policy; it’s worthless if a doctor won’t see you and the government rejects a procedure or drug you need or you can’t treatment because you can’t meet the ungodly deductibles. This is not healthcare. It’s a shakedown of Americans and the healthcare insurance companies.

We need to tell them that we detest this law that they voted immunity for themselves, not to mention all the other waivers for their special interest friends. Enough is enough. This is not a left or right issue if all Americans stand up against this overreach.

If it’s so great for American citizens, it’s surely great for its authors. One for all and all for one. Perhaps if they get a taste of their own medicine, they might retreat. If not, throw them all out minus the few that stood up against the Bill. Thank you Senators Cruz and Lee!
