And I thought the President was sworn to protect the Constitution...

Each president recites the following oath, in accordance with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

President Obama has said “he doesn’t want the folks that created the mess to do a lot of talking”. Now being from England (although we have lived in NH for almost 8 years), maybe I’m just confused, but I thought that the 1st Amendment to the Constitution protected free speech, and that the President swears on the Bible to protect that same Constitution?

Does that mean that the “preserve, protect and defend the constitution” part of the oath was Obama’s first lie as President? I hope the Guiness Book of Records was there with a stopwatch because that will be a hard record to beat.
