Anthony Weiner: Maybe NYC Should Get An ObamaCare Waiver

(Via Ace Of Spades) Alternate Headline: Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) Makes Best Case Against ObamaCare:

Weiner, who is likely to run for mayor of New York, said that because of the city’s special health care infrastructure, his office was looking into alternatives that might make more sense. Weiner is one of the health care law’s biggest supporters; during the debate leading up to reform, he was one of the last holdouts in Congress for the public option.

“The president said, ‘If you have better ideas that can accomplish the same thing, go for it,'” said Weiner. “I’m in the process now of trying to see if we can take [President Barack Obama] up on it in the city of New York, … and I’m taking a look at all of the money we spend in Medicaid and Medicare and maybe New York City can come up with a better plan.”

The New York Democrat said that he does not have the power to get the city to apply for a waiver but that he is “personally looking at whether he can make the numbers work.”

“We in New York already have hospitals, we already employ doctors and we employ nurses. We have a lot of uninsured people. … [Setting up] the exchanges is the one piece of the puzzle that would be difficult for us to do,” he said. “I’m just looking internally to whether the city can save money and have more control over its own destiny.”

Clearly. Bolding mine.

I mean, the entire state of Maine got a waiver, why not NYC? I also don’t blame Anthony Weiner. He’s only looking out for his constituents. I also support him becoming NYC Mayor, because Weiner can do less damage to the rest of the United States if he’s there. Sure he’ll turn his wath toward the people of NYC and their bike paths (NSFW), but we’re talking about NYC here and nothing of value will be lost.

Let’s break down the bold part of what Anthony Weiner said:

  1. “I’m just looking internally to whether the city can save money…” – Wasn’t that the whole point of ObamaCare? Saving money? I mean, sure, he can laugh all the way to NYC as Mayor with his waiver, but what about the rest of us?

Weiner must have done the math and is now realizing that ObamaCare is not going to save New York City any money with regards to medical service. Without realizing it, he just made the case that ObamaCare is a money black-hole and will screw anyone who does not get a waiver.

  2. “…and (NYC will) have more control over its own destiny.” – This pretty much says it all. ObamaCare wasn’t much about medical care, but control and Anthony Weiner has let the cat out of the bag. This isn’t like Rep. John Dingell’s Freudian slip that can be explain away, this a full admission that ObamaCare about control.

So there you go. Rep. Anthony Weiner gives away the game: ObamaCare won’t save anyone any money and isn’t about medical care. He doesn’t think NYC should have to suffer under ObamaCare’s heavy hand, but won’t bat an eye while the rest of us are crushed by it.
