Alabama Democrats become Republicans in state legislature because of issues. Democratic Party's official statement plays race card.

Montgomery Advertiser:

Alan Boothe of Troy, Mike Millican of Hamilton, Lesley Vance of Phenix City, and Steve Hurst of Munford announced their switch, which was reported by the Mont gomery Advertiser on Friday.

The shift brings the number of Republicans in the House to 66, compared to 39 Dem ocrats. About 20 Republicans, including U.S. Rep. Mike Rog ers and the likely choice for the next speaker of the House, Rep. Mike Hubbard of Auburn, were at the announcement.

They said they believe in small businesses and small government.

Republicans in the Legislature “have put on a full-court press to push all white Democrats to change parties after the election,” according to a state ment from the Alabama Democratic Party.
