Congratulations to the Jerry Moran for Senate campaign, and to Congressman Moran himself. They won their US Senate race fair and square.
I’m confident Jerry Moran will be a good US Senator.
Let’s be honest: over the last 10 years, both Todd Tiahrt and Jerry Moran spent money like Democrats. Republicans held the US House from 1994 to 2006, and almost every Republican member of Congress spent money like a Democrat.
Frankly, it’s my opinion that Jerry Moran is better of fiscal issues — barely, but still better — than Todd Tiahrt.
I did prefer Todd Tiahrt was because of his greater willingness to fight behind the scenes. I’m concerned Jerry Moran cares a little too much about public opinion polls.
But it should be said that, to Jerry Moran’s credit, Moran was willing to go against Karl Rove and George Bush with some of Bush’s big-spending ways. I admire Moran for being willing to “go against the team” when the team bus was driving off a policy and political strategy cliff.
And Jerry Moran is pro-life, and pro-traditional marriage. On final votes, Jerry Moran will vote correctly.
The United States is at a critical point, namely because of the Supreme Court, which is at a 4-4-1 divide, where one more Justice is needed who cares about the original intent of the Constitution.
Also important is spending and tax reform. We absolutely need a 2/3 super-majority of Congress to pass a new amendment to the Constitution, dealing with some meaningful kind of self-imposed spending limit, some form of a balanced budget amendment.
During a debate on a balanced budget amendment, every level of government (down to cities and local schools) — along with corporations that make most of their money from the taxpayers — will fight hard against spending reform. I hope that Jerry Moran will have the strength to stand up for the voters, against the special interests who aren’t interested about the long-term health of the country.
I think Jerry Moran will do well. I know the First District of Kansas is pleased with the performance and representation of Congressman Jerry Moran. I’m confident that all Kansans will be pleased with our future Senator Jerry Moran.
