We deride [mc_name name=’Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000355′ ] and his inept leadership in the Senate. Rightly so, he could not override Barrack Hussein Obama’s idiotic veto of an economically necessary piece of 4-year overdue legislation. Look at it this way, if you want your gas prices at the pump to decrease you needed the Senate to boot the President’s veto. Not because it will have an immediate influence on the amount of crude oil or refined petroleum in the system but simply because markets respond to the perception of increased future supply.
When it comes to impacting the machinations of Congress the media (read: Democrats) relentlessly pressure Republicans. State by state liberals will find thumb screws to tighten and sway spineless milquetoast Congressmen/women. Why don’t we do the same? Consider how this vote went down and how many Democrats voted with us. Then think about how this vote should have gone, given enough incentives to motivate 4 more Democrats to break ranks.
Look at the latest Roll Call On Overriding the Veto S. 1 in the Senate, 62-37 Veto Sustained. Specifically look at the 8 Democrats who voted with the Republicans to override. They must have known that this veto would stick, so that they can stick their necks out.

What prevented us from applying pressure to 4 more Democrats in the Senate to push through the Keystone XL veto override? Who is freaking-fracking in charge of doing this? Mitch isn’t up to it. But as far as I am concerned he has abdicated his leadership. And in a vacuum other leaders need to step up.
Do we believe that the Democrat party discipline is so strong that they will never break ranks? Maybe it is, but there are always cracks to exploit. Do we think that they know the direction from whence our pressure will come? Do we think that they can discount our voices because we are conservative? They don’t know who we are. For all they know we are union members and blue collar workers, we are school teachers and public sector workers. They don’t have a profile on every one of us (wait, let me take that back, they probably do). What I mean is that they probably won’t be able to dis-confirm very public pressures in their home states. They can not separate out who we are if we find broader and more general channels to broadcast our discontent at the state level.
We can influence the Democratic Party through direction action by pressuring the state Democratic party apparatus. There are Democrats even in blue states that will go nuts if they realized what these Senators are doing. We just need to whet the crazies appetite and set the hounds loose. Point them in the right direction for once.
Or we can attack these Democratic Senators through state media such as city network news stations and papers that are open to reporting the truth. As cynical as I am I know that in many states local news is still reported by some real journalists. They are few and far between but all we need is a couple with the guts and platform to apply pressure for the sake of increasing jobs and boosting the economy. The old guard still exists, even as it is fading fast.
Look at this list of 6 Democrat Senators, and tell me if you can’t think of a few reasons why they might turn given the right persuasion. Hell, there are companies that could buy them off if they had to. Menandez might flip just to stick it to Obama! I’m not saying these guys are remotely conservative, I’m asking you to think differently. Maybe they are corruptible to our way of thinking, for one vote.
