Press On: The path to victory is through the Republican Party not around it

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

Calvin Coolidge

The road to victory lies through the Republican Party not around it.

This is not an argument, it is reassurance that what you know is true is worth pursuing. Let this perspective encourage your work and brace your resolve. Other people, countries, and families have faced long odds and great obstacles. And while many died before seeing the promised land, many survived and even won the battle. Remember what we are fighting for. Then these betrayals become necessary to give us the ammunition we need to purge the party on the road to victory.

The message on the poster above is modified from the original, but I like the wording for our times. Your enemy will always tell you what they fear. The Republicans are more afraid of the Tea Party (read: conservatives) than a third party or Democrat rebuilding effort. We have a home in the Republican Party, and we only get kicked out when we agree to leave. This party is our party and if you want to take back the country you must take back this party.

Cal Coolidge has an insight not only into hard work but life. The motto Press On is not based on pure reliance on human effort, but the context where our effort is most effective. Philippians 3:14 states, “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize.” This combination of the application of our effort with the blessing of the Lord is necessary to turn back this tide of evil that has infested our nation. The only thing that will steel our souls is our vigilance to protect our hope and refusal to allow the enemy to steal our joy.

When I read about the failure of the Republicans to hold up their end of the bargain I get mad. Then I calm down and focus. If we are going to get this government under control we will need to work harder within the levers of power. This is the way our system has been broken by statists of all stripes. And, short of a civil war that tears it apart, reforming the relationship between the United States government and the American citizen will fix it. The deal is: we give the Rs more votes and they make good on the promise to protect and defend the constitution. If they don’t then more of them will be replaced with more of us.

It’s worth noting that the image above was taken from the http://immigrationimpact.com a liberal PAC and they know the power of persistence. Our approach must contain an equal but opposite resilience. Nehemiah 4 contains a prescription for rebuilding the walls of a nation. Prayer, Protection, Preparation and Proactive work.

Verses 4 and 5 “Hear us, O our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of the builders.”

Verses 13 and 14 “Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”

The original phrasing on the WWII poster was: Keep Calm, Carry On. The basis of this saying has recently become a popular t-shirt phrase. If you are not familiar with the root of the Keep Calm… motto that many printers have modified, it comes from posters that were to be used to bolster the spirits of an England being bombarded by Nazi warplanes during WWII. 2.45 million copies were never distributed. We need to remember the same thing and get the word out.

The best way to win this contest, even with the constant barrage of Obama’s executive action and Republican cowardice and inaction, is to press on. A scan of the WWII poster above contains the British phrasing “Carry On” rather than Press On, but the meaning is similar enough. We must move forward with this British WWII poster in mind:

In The Last Battle, the final book in the Chronicles of Narnia series, the resolve of a band of brothers is tested. And the only way forward is through. It is an analogy for our spiritual and cultural test. Will you shrink from the challenge? Or will you press on like so many soldiers did through out our American history?

“Further up and further in”
C.S. Lewis, The Last Battle

Lewis had this personal resolve in his life. He wrote to encourage his English nation in the Backdrop of the German Blitz and the second World War. Always holding the stiff upper lip, another WWII poster reads:

Victory does not come from fear and loathing, but from determination and purposefulness. We must continue to target those members of the house and Senate that break faith with our nation and principles. We came close to knocking off [mc_name name=’Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000355′ ]. We can relegate him to the ash heap of majority leader history in due time. Either we marginalize him, vote him out of his position (even with seniority and Senate machinations there is a path to oust him at least from leadership in 2 or 4 years) and build the plan to primary him in 6. “I want some butts.”

[mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] are you listening? To other Senators and House Members we know who you are. And, yes, at the local level the Precinct Plan is in full effect. We can walk and chew gum. Our plan to take over the money is coupled with starving the RNC. Reince Priebus seems like a nice guy. But he’s no warrior for our times, certainly no Winston Churchill. Control must be wrested slowly but surely from the party domination regime. “Don’t give up. Never, never, never give up.”

Keep Calm, Press On. We can do this.
