Why I love the fiscal cliff

Well first of all, it’s not really a cliff so lets get that out of the way. Contrary to what most people may think, as a small business owner I would gladly remit my tax payment to Uncle Sam based on the tax code set to go into effect on January first in exchange for the peace of mind that would come from a balance budget by way of not raising the debt ceiling and just letting all this stuff expire.
Over the last several years my feelings of general uneasiness can only be compared to two other times in my life. Once was as a nine year old when I watched a local news report detailing how a naval base about 5 miles from my home would likely be bombarded by soviet nukes during an theoretical strike on the US, and the other was on the morning of September 11th 2001 when for a short time after the pentagon strike but before the towers fell MSNBC was running with an unconfirmed report that a plane had hit the capital in Washington. It was retracted after less than 10 minutes but I still remember clearly thinking for those few moments that we may have just lost our entire elected leadership and chaos was going to ensue.
Unfortunately as things have decayed in Washington for the last several years  that same feeling has become part of my daily thinking. I honestly wonder whether my hard earned dollars will be crushed under inflation, if there will be an America for my daughter to grow up in that resembled the one I knew, or if we were actually in a pre-Revolutionary phase as Pat Ciddell has recently suggested.
We are.
And that is why it makes perfect sense for the leadership of the house to do nothing rather than anything. Although it would result in some short term pain it would set the country back down the path of sanity and allow for the provisions of Simpson/Bowles or better yet back in black to be implemented to finally move us in the right direction.
The current path will destroy this country and once we are no longer a superpower the world, left to its own devices will most likely destroy itself in 3 or 4 generations. The world would be nothing without the ingenuity of a free people that created the industrial revolution and modern technology. Do we really think that the UN’s best and brightest would be able to anything other than lead us into Armageddon? Time to take one for the world, after all, could things get any worse?
