This morning it was announced that Juan Williams had been fired from NPR for his comments the previous night on the O’Reilly Factor regarding Muslims. Punishment was swift from the left because Williams had spoken out against their ideals of multiculturalism and political correctness. I don’t always agree with Juan Williams, but he’s a straight shooter and a wonderful commentator. All day, news channels have been arguing about free speech. Williams’ firing does have to do with free speech, but not free speech in the Constitutional sense; it’s about the ability to speak one’s mind without running afoul of the Political Correctness Thought Police. Liberals rule at NPR. NPR should lose its taxpayer funding, period. If liberals want a voice on radio, then they need to fund the stations themselves – not the US taxpayer.
We have arrived at a point in our society where the Progressives have effectively vilified anything that smells of the Right or Conservatism. Who or what are on the hit list with the PC Thought Police?
Christians
Israel
Tea Party
Conservatives
Black Conservatives
Individualism
Profits
Anti-abortion
Marriage
Entitlement reform
Anti-illegal immigration
The list goes on. Williams’ firing is just one more step toward a society where nobody is offended. There are schools and park districts that don’t keep score so nobody’s feelings get hurt if someone loses. Musical chairs and Duck, Duck Goose have been banned elsewhere because someone might feel left out. Schools have been flirting with the idea of not giving an F as a grade because they don’t want anyone to feel failure. Textbooks are the dullest books written because editors don’t want to offend any particular cultural, religious or ideological group. Reported from the UK today, a restaurant has to shut its fans off because the smell of bacon is offending Muslims living down the street. I know rights are not absolute, but aren’t we taking the “my right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins” just a bit far?
The issue of Political Correctness goes even further. Anything that runs up against the Progressive thought pattern and the Progressive societal planning is automatically condemned and the words “racist” or “bigot” are thrown out into the media and then the media, who is all too sympathetic to Progressivism, repeats whatever their Progressive masters say. We here it everyday from the mouth of our President. We it from their spokesmen on the nightly talk shows as they “get tingles up their legs”. The left has declared war on the right. The left knows this election is a complete blow back to Progressive policies shoved down our throats by one party and one ideology. I can almost here them say the following,
Although the Right has been overthrown, it is still trying to use the old ideas, culture, customs, and habits of the exploiting classes to corrupt the masses, capture their minds, and endeavor to stage a comeback. The Progressives must do just the opposite: It must meet head-on every challenge of the Right in the ideological field and use the new ideas, culture, customs, and habits of Progressivism to change the mental outlook of the whole of society. At present, our objective is to struggle against and crush those persons on the Right who are taking the Conservative road, to criticize and repudiate the reactionary Tea Party academic “authorities” and the ideology of the Tea Party and all other exploiting classes and to transform education, literature and art, and all other parts of the superstructure that do not correspond to the Progressive economic base, so as to facilitate the consolidation and development of Progressivism.
Sounds like something someone on the left would say, doesn’t it? We see it from the NAACP, a once proud civil rights organization demoted to the status of Democrat PAC and attack dog, trying to paint Tea Partiers as racists. CAIR and NPR labeling Juan Wiliams as a bigot. The daily attacks against Christianity. The daily attacks on capitalism. The daily attacks on our Constitution. The ganging up of media/moderators in debates between Conservatives or Republicans against Progressives/Democrats. I actually modified the above “quote” from a historical document. The original quote is from 1966, written by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in their 16 Points as they launched the Cultural Revolution. Here is the actual written statement:
Although the bourgeoisie has been overthrown, it is still trying to use the old ideas, culture, customs, and habits of the exploiting classes to corrupt the masses, capture their minds, and endeavor to stage a comeback. The proletariat must do just the opposite: It must meet head-on every challenge of the bourgeoisie in the ideological field and use the new ideas, culture, customs, and habits of the proletariat to change the mental outlook of the whole of society. At present, our objective is to struggle against and crush those persons in authority who are taking the capitalist road, to criticize and repudiate the reactionary bourgeois academic “authorities” and the ideology of the bourgeoisie and all other exploiting classes and to transform education, literature and art, and all other parts of the superstructure that do not correspond to the socialist economic base, so as to facilitate the consolidation and development of the socialist system.
Not much real difference between my altered statement and the actual statement. The “struggle against” ideas that run counter to Progressive thought has been going on since before Obama took office, but has accelerated since with the aid of a Progressive majority in both Houses of Congress. We saw it first hand after the passage of Obamacare when Caterpillar, Verizon and other companies said they were going to take a $1 billion charge on their books because of Obamacare. Henry Waxman, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, was going to drag the CEOs of the offending companies up in front of his committee but backed off when he (and others) realized the companies were right. We see it in the backlash of SB 1070 as one state tried to defend itself from the continued influx of illegal immigrants while the federal government stood by and did nothing to curb illegal immigration (while at the same time pushing for amnesty). The overturn of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell by Federal judges legislating from the bench. We will more of the “struggle against” as we move closer to Christmas as Progressives try to take Christ out of Christmas and from society as a whole.
This is why I say Political Correctness is dead. We have moved full on into the realm of the American Cultural Revolution. There is no Mao, but we do have Obama, Pelosi, Reid, NAACP, George Soros, MSNBC, Acorn, Moveon.org, CAIR, ACLU, and many others trying to push back against the “old ideas, culture, customs, and habits”. Our first chance to fight back against this onslaught of Progressive thought is November 2nd. When we win in a week and a half, we must keep fighting because Progressives are like a bad case of herpes, just when you think it’s gone away, it comes flaring back twice as worse. Political Correctness was the first phase of their plan, now we must fight their second phase – American Cultural (Progressive) Revolution – everywhere it flares up.
