Social interaction and the ability to re-engage friends, followers and fans has become a bit easier on Facebook with some recently released tips and tricks, according to EyesOnNews on Monday.

Recent reports indicate that clicking “Like” on a Facebook status update immediately after posting it will increase the number of Facebook friends exposed to it thus raising awareness and presence on the world’s most popular social networking website.

After clicking “Post” on a status update, generally only the top 10-12% of Facebook friends sees them.  Typically, these are better friends and those voluntarily subscribed to a particular news feed. The number of “Likes” and comments received by a particular post also influence position. The more relevant a status update – whether it be an article, story, photo, or video – the better chance it has of appearing in the news feed of Facebook friends.

Facebook has made a number of changes to the news feed in the last several years and has even introduced a streaming Ticker. The status updates that now appear in a news feed are influenced by personal connections and activity on Facebook.  Instead of receiving updates from all of your friends, only posts from those you interact with most will appear in a news feed.

Clicking “Like” on a Facebook status update will not only expose it to friends, but send it to the streaming news ticker on the right side of the page. Each of your online friends are then made aware of the status update and given a chance to interact and respond.

“I usually wait a few hours or days to ‘Like’ my own Facebook status update,” Bonnie Manis, a Fort Lauderdale based social media manager, told Examiner. “Those who missed my post the first time around may see it in their scrolling news feed when I like it later.”

Clicking “Like” on your Facebook status update is considered giving yourself a “High Five” or “Hi-5.”  With that said, social media is all about exposure and the message you are attempting to convey.  The more you click “Like,” the more your friends will be exposed to your status update post. When they themselves click “Like” or make a comment, their Facebook friends may also see your post in their own news feed.

“We’ve found that by clicking ‘Like’ on our own post it increases interaction on our Facebook fan page,” Lee Feldman, President of Pops Corn in Fort Lauderdale, told Examiner. “This is especially so when we advertise or market our Signature Gold Tin of popcorn.  Fan interaction has almost doubled.”

Appreciation of your own Facebook status update is not being pretentious. Be proud of your own post — be proud of what you have to say and how you do it.  Attaching your name to any particular status update not only builds confidence, but credibility. Besides, people are more likely — no pun intended — to “Like” and comment on a Facebook post if someone has done so already.

“Simply clicking ‘Like’ on your personal Facebook status is not an indication that you are — in fact — a narcissist,” Ruth Swissa Kline, clinical director for Bridges to Change in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, told Examiner. “Many other behaviors have to be established before someone is deemed narcissistic. A better explanation might be an individual who simply clicked ‘Like’ indicating their emphasis of a particular post to friends.”

Increase social media exposure and become more popular on Facebook by clicking “Like” each and every time you update a status post. It’s not pretentious or narcissist — be yourself, “Like” yourself.
