A Chunk of the Media Openly Breaks With Ethics, Becomes Democrat Party's PR Firm

While it’s clear that mainstream journalists are almost entirely of a leftist bent, Bloomberg News just essentially went completely open with it and announced that it won’t be investigating its owner, Michael Bloomberg, or subsequently any of his Democrat opponents.

From The Hill:

White House hopeful Michael Bloomberg, owner and founder of Bloomberg News, defended his company’s decision not to investigate his fellow Democratic presidential primary candidates, saying that being a reporter at Bloomberg includes “some restrictions and responsibilities.”

“They get a paycheck, but with your paycheck comes some restrictions and responsibilities,” Bloomberg told Gayle King in an exclusive interview with “CBS This Morning.”

He added: “People have said to me, ‘How can you investigate yourself? And I said, ‘I don’t think you can.’”

This was backed by Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait in a staff memo according to The Hill.

“We will continue our tradition of not investigating Mike (and his family and foundation) and we will extend the same policy to his rivals in the Democratic primaries. We cannot treat Mike’s democratic competitors differently from him,” wrote Micklethwait.

Let’s take a step back for a second and really see what this means.

While I understand its ethical to not use your own news outlet to bash your opponents, it’s unethical that the only people Bloomberg won’t be investigating are Democrats. Republicans are apparently still on the chopping block.

What this announcement is saying is that the news outlet’s bias won’t be restrained, and journalists won’t be doing their ethical duty. Instead, they will be acting in service toward Bloomberg’s campaign, and quite frankly, at the service of the Democratic party.

In short, Bloomberg journalists are not journalists, but simply employees of Bloomberg’s presidential campaign, and subservient to the Democrat party as a whole in its effort to retake the White House.

There is no credibility to be had now. There is no point in even listening to Bloomberg news as we now know that everything out of their outlet will be laced with anti-Republican sentiment because they could be fired if they go after Democrats at all.

The question now becomes, will we see journalists leave Bloomberg News due to this lack of ethics?

My prediction is probably no. As Brent Bozell and Tim Graham wrote on Fox News, this lack of ethics hasn’t been a problem for a while. What’s more, the rest of the media isn’t going to mind either due to its obvious lack of ethics and clear comfort with bias:

In reality, Bloomberg’s journalists have been compromised ever since Bloomberg first ran for mayor of New York City in 2001. After 12 years as mayor, Bloomberg became a big-time sugar daddy to liberal activists pushing government crackdowns on fossil fuel production and gun ownership. How “objective” reporters could ethically navigate all of their owner’s political activism seems impossible.

But let’s face it: Back then, the rest of the “news” media never found this objectionable. Bloomberg News was branded in a business-news niche and, in that sphere, looked like a progressive influence, so they didn’t care.
