Not only was the al Qaeda leader and terror mastermind not holding a weapon when he was killed, but his guns weren’t even loaded, despite more than ten minutes’ warning – after a hard landing by a Black Hawk helicopter and a firefight at the guest house – that his compound was under attack. While media have understandably focused on the bin Laden narrative, and the differences between it and the Obama administration’s story of the raid, it’s important to note something about this book at the outset: While Operation Neptune Spear (ONS), the bin Laden mission, is the hook (and a singularly effective one at that), this is neither a tell-all nor a score-settling effort, but a military memoir. This should be clear from the cover alone; though “The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama bin Laden” is emblazoned on the front, the book also boasts the subtitle “The Autobiography of a Navy SEAL.”]]>

<creator xmlns="dc"><![CDATA[Jeff Emanuel]]></creator>

The Media Are Objective. Let’s take a quick look at them – and at the laugher that a senior campaign official offered in response. The Politico piece is interesting in its classification of Obama as little more than a “conventional” politician, though its focus – on Obama’s failure to preside over “what Robert Frost at Kennedy’s inaugural called a ‘golden age of poetry and power,’ with artists and intellectuals prominent among the first family’s friends and the Georgetown social scene regularly enlivened with the presence of a young and outgoing couple – is trite and tired at best. As may be expected, it showcases quotes that excuse Obama’s failure to present himself as a luminary by denigrating the president’s political opposition and Americans as a whole. Part of the effort to recreate 2008 in the current election cycle, as a new ad from the RNC shows, is to simply recycle the same words, phrases, and promises then-candidate Obama made four years ago – before his Carteresque term as President.via SunshineStateSarahObama’s copying from himself four years ago isn’t just an effort to recapture the “magic” of 2008, when his three-word catch-phrases (“Hope and Change”), vapid slogans (“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for”), and ridiculously hyperbolic self-aggrandizement (“This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal”) captured the imagination of a majority of American voters and propelled the freshman Senator from Illinois into the White House. The repetition also stems from a serious problem the Obama campadministration* is facing as a result of its disastrous handling of an already-fragile domestic economy. Obama’s staffers and advisers have been all over the map when faced with the question of whether or not Americans are better off now than they were four years ago, with answers ranging from “No” to “Maybe” to “Absolutely!” to “lalalala not answering not answering.” Most recently, Vice President Joe Bidenopoulos declared to a union crowd, “Folks, let me make something clear, say it to the press: America is better off today than they left us when they left.” Of course, he followed that up by saying, “And if it weren’t so hot – if it weren’t so hot, I’d go into detail why.” Convincing explanation there, Joe.Given the terrible economy and the campadministration’s own messaging issues about it, is there any question why Obama would rather recycle 2008’s promises, invoke former President Bush a few more times, and try to convince America that the last four years simply didn’t happen?Image courtesy of Ace of Spades’ John Ekdahl.* Let’s be honest: the Obama campaign is the Obama administration is the Obama campaign is the Obama administration is the Obama campaign is the Obama administration is the Obama campaign is the Obama administration…well, you get the gist.]]>

<creator xmlns="dc"><![CDATA[Jeff Emanuel]]></creator>

Ryan's 'Fading Obama Posters' Line Spawns an Excellent Ad

<![CDATA[Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan’s speech to the RNC Wednesday night was addressed in no small part to the segment of the population that supported President Obama in 2008, but who were turned off enough by the last four years to consider an alternative in the upcoming election.
