The best he seems able to do is to attribute the lack of enjoyment to the campaigns’ supposed decision to “run out the clock” on the 2012 election, saying the same things over and over while playing it safe with their statements and positions.Reading between the lines, though, there’s a far bigger issue at play here – an 800 lb gorilla of sorts – in the form of alternative media, and the loosening effect direct communication outlets have had on the vise grip with which the establishment media once commanded the flow of information. Let’s take a quick look at them – and at the laugher that a senior campaign official offered in response.The Politico piece is interesting in its classification of Obama as little more than a “conventional” politician, though its focus – on Obama’s failure to preside over “what Robert Frost at Kennedy’s inaugural called a ‘golden age of poetry and power,’ with artists and intellectuals prominent among the first family’s friends and the Georgetown social scene regularly enlivened with the presence of a young and outgoing couple – is trite and tired at best. As may be expected, it showcases quotes that excuse Obama’s failure to present himself as a luminary by denigrating the president’s political opposition and Americans as a whole. Part of the effort to recreate 2008 in the current election cycle, as a new ad from the RNC shows, is to simply recycle the same words, phrases, and promises then-candidate Obama made four years ago – before his Carteresque term as President.via SunshineStateSarahObama’s copying from himself four years ago isn’t just an effort to recapture the “magic” of 2008, when his three-word catch-phrases (“Hope and Change”), vapid slogans (“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for”), and ridiculously hyperbolic self-aggrandizement (“This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal”) captured the imagination of a majority of American voters and propelled the freshman Senator from Illinois into the White House. The repetition also stems from a serious problem the Obama campadministration* is facing as a result of its disastrous handling of an already-fragile domestic economy.
