With the country’s future on the line and November quickly approaching, a lot’s been made of mail-in voting. Some say it’s democracy’s pandemic preservation, while others think it’s downright crappy.

One Michigan resident of the latter mind took to his front yard recently to let everyone know.

If you’re unaware, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the state plans to hold its election largely by mail. In May, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced absentee ballot applications would be sent to all 7.7 million registered voters. The usual number of mail-outs: 1.3 mil.

The idea’s racked up its share of critics, including this guy:

Democratic leaders, on the other hand, are big fans:

Not everyone believes the Donkey Party’s intentions are honorable — after all, to some, Joe Biden’s shot looks like that word with a different vowel. And his repeated call of an early “lid” is enough to make unstable-stomached bluestaters need to lift theirs and sit for a spell.

Apropros, a Michigander set up their own polling booth:

Call it a statement.

HotAir reports the Democratic County Clerk didn’t find it funny:

[She] declared that the display represented an illegal plan to steal [ballots] from people. She went on to demand that prosecutors look into the matter immediately and take action.

It was food for thought, but the idea got pushed out. As noted by The Associated Press — the county prosecutor quickly performed a handle-grabbed prelude to a swishing sound:

A prosecutor in Michigan has flushed a complaint about a toilet that was promoted as a place to drop absentee ballots…
Barb Byrum, a Democrat, said it’s a felony to take illegal possession of absentee ballots.

But there was no evidence of an intent to violate Michigan law, said the office of county prosecutor Carol Siemon, a Democrat.

“Instead, this seemed to be an effort to make a humorous political statement,” the statement said.

The County Clerk’s not alone on the war path — as relayed by CBSN Los Angeles, “A newly signed (California) state law makes spreading misinformation about voting by mail a misdemeanor criminal offense.”

They’re circling their wagons, like a swirling pattern over a porcelain background.

The law took effect immediately Friday.

Partisan lines have always been drawn over how to vote, but who’d have guessed they’d so effectively divide us by method?

Back to Michigan’s metaphor, the battle rages on — come November, many Americans will trust the USPS and the efficacy of an untested approach.

Others will look at those people and think that they — and their system — will not be…deterred.

Particularly phonetically.
