Don, Jr., Gets Spicy - Takes Jab at Dems

Sean Spicer, former White House Press Secretary, may not be the first contestant on “Dancing With the Stars” to be closely associated with Donald Trump, but he’s certainly proved the most frustrating — at least as far as the judges are concerned. It seems that, despite his dubious dancing skills, he’s become an audience favorite.

DWTS bases elimination/survival of contestants on a combination of judges’ scores and audience votes. This has enabled Spicer to avoid elimination, low scores and less-than-stellar reviews from the judges notwithstanding.

On Monday night’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” judge Len Goodman looked like he finally was out of patience with Sean Spicer.

“We keep throwing you out of the boat and the viewers keep throwing a life preserver,” he told President Donald Trump’s former press secretary after Spicer’s less than stellar jazz routine to Styx’s “Come Sail Away.” The studio audience didn’t know how to react to that comment — there was a mix of applause and boos. Host Tom Bergeron burst out laughing.

“That’s the truth!” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said, as Goodman added that the mermaid (one of the characters onstage during his nautical-themed performance with professional partner Jenna Johnson) had better footwork than Spicer.

No doubt, a significant driver of the audience votes is Spicer’s association with the Trump administration. His numbers were given an added boost by President Trump’s October 14th tweet encouraging his followers to continue voting for Spicer:

Trump gave another nod to Spicer last week on Twitter:

Donald Trump, Jr., who’s currently  making the rounds promoting his new book, “Triggered,” shared this observation with “Extra” over the weekend:

He went on to talk about his recent tweet about Sean Spicer and “Dancing with the Stars.”

Don tweeted his support for the former White House press secretary last week, writing, “Guys get this going again for Spicy. The meltdown the Hollywood types keep having when he wins with your votes is soooo worth the time. Get on it!!!” Don told Jenn what he thinks about the controversy surrounding Spicer, who despite not being an exceptional dancer continues to take home the votes.

Trump said, “If the Democrats can’t get Sean Spicer off ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ how are they going to win 2020? They got a lot of outrage that… they can’t get him off of this show… So it’s pretty funny to watch.” (emphasis added)

Of course, DWTS votes don’t necessarily translate into electoral votes, but they do demonstrate a level of enthusiasm for all things #MAGA among a segment of the DWTS audience (and likely others who don’t watch the show but see votes for Spicer as a show of their support for Trump.)

One thing is for certain: Don, Jr., clearly knows how to tweak (or trigger) Democrats.
