Nadler: ‘I Don't Know if 2020 Will Be a Fair Election’ if Trump Acquitted

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) might already be making excuses for a Democratic loss in 2020. It looks like they haven’t yet been able to concoct another Russiagate-style conspiracy theory to explain why they could be headed for disaster in next year’s elections.

Go figure.

So what’s going to be the excuse this time? According to the representative, if Trump is not removed from office, there won’t be a fair election in 2020. No really, that’s the best they can come up with so far.

In an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Nadler said President Trump would somehow make the election unfair if he was acquitted of articles of impeachment. When host Chuck Todd asked if there could be a fair election if Trump is acquitted, Nadler responded, “I don’t know. The president, based on his past performance, he will do everything he can to make it not a fair election,” he explained. “And that is part of what gives us the urgency to proceed with this impeachment.”

The chairman also stated that members of the House and the Senate will have to decide “in the fact of an abundance of uncontested evidence,” whether or not “the president poses a threat to our election.”

That’s right. After looking at the evidence, which is basically just a version of “I heard from my cousin’s barber’s grandfather’s friend that Trump did bad stuff with Ukraine,” lawmakers will surely be compelled to convict the president and remove him from office. Good luck with that, Rep. Nadler.

But it gets even better. He continued, saying that “This is a matter of urgency to deal with because we have to make sure the next election is conducted with integrity and without foreign interference.”

But perhaps Nadler is trying to distract from the real reason why Democrats are desperate to remove Trump from office through impeachment. Unfortunately, Rep. Al Green already said the quiet part out loud earlier this year when he worried that “if we don’t impeach this president, he will get re-elected.”

It might be that the Democrats are trying out various messaging strategies that they will use when their impeachment efforts fail. No doubt their allies in the corporate media will lend a hand in framing the narrative about their inevitable failure. But it’s blatantly obvious that the craze over impeaching Trump is occurring for one reason, and one reason only: The Democrats know their prospects of defeating Trump in 2020 aren’t looking favorable.
