We lost this because of our own obsession…
I intentionally embargoed myself from posting this because I didn’t want to be an example of “depressing” the vote.
So therefore, as I sit here and watch election results come in, and I see an Obama victory. I have one question to ask:
[continued]
Are all you “redstate.com’ers” happy about your obsession with nominating McCain because he was “the only one that could beat Hillary or Barack?”
I was a Romney supporter…don’t you think that he would be doing much better right now given the economic situation? Not that any of us could have foreseen the meltdown, but Romney was not an active member of the House or Senate nor attached to the sitting President. (And please… no one start talking about Romney’s Mormonism. I am a Catholic… and I did/would have voted for him)
So what happened to the “maverick”…how are you a “maverick” when you won’t even attack your political enemy for things that are BLATANTLY obvious? (J. Wright, Pflager, coal industry, redistribution of wealth, etc, etc)
Palin was a good add on… maybe because he knew he was sinking with conservatives, but after the convention, they muzzled her….badly. When I voted.. I voted for Palin…because she will be the torch bearer from now on.
I am not trying to “Monday morning quarterback” here, but I remember back in January how many people on this site were saying “McCain is the only one that can beat Hillary…” and “McCain is the only one that can be Barack.”
Hillary beat herself, and Barack was a sitting duck on so many things. McCain claimed to be a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. Reagan would have kicked Obama’s butt on the issues that came to light. He wouldn’t have treated any of these with kid gloves. He would have done it with respect and dignity, but he still would have addressed them in some form that would have resonated with the people.
I sincerely “hope” that you people that have been obsessed with defeating a candidate with a GOP’er because of their ability to “reach across the aisle” have learned you lesson.
You get nothing from reaching across the aisle…unless it is to crush the larynx of your vocal opposition.
We – as REAL Conservatives – have got to go back to basics. Stop reaching across the aisle. Stop walking across the aisle to only get your butt kicked.
Don’t be a product of the media…defy the media… from the get go. Don’t run an honorable campaign… run a campaign. Call your political enemy what he/she is.
The rebuilding begins tomorrow.
I hope you people who wanted someone who could woo independents and moderates are happy…it just got us four years of Barack.
May God have some sort of mercy on this country I defended for almost 10 years.
May God have mercy on the 50 million unborn babies who were murdered because of abortion..and that number is about to expand.
May the Immaculate Heart of Mary triumph…..
May God have mercy on us all…

Two Problems Here
exitsfunnel Tuesday, November 4th at 11:41PM EST (link)(1) It’s too early for this.
(2) It’s all wrong. McCain got clobbered but Romney (or anyone else) would have got clobbered even worse. At least McCain won the south, based on the primary results I’m not sure that Romney would have even done that. McCain was the right guy; this just wasn’t going to be the GOP’s year.

Actually...
PSDA (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 12:13AM EST (link)I think Guliani would have won, and probably (though I didn’t support him, Huckabee). Both of whom I think would have managed to address the economic crisis more convincingly than McCain. As unfair as it is, Romney would have been roasted precisely BECAUSE of his big business background.
It’s grotesque, since Romney really does know his ass from his elbow on economic matters and Obama hasn’t a clue, but this is the level of irrationality we were up against.. just look at McCain took so much blame, and totally unfairly.
But that’s something we couldn’t have known about in advance, and all things considered, McCain was the best shot. Water under the bridge.
Stop this. Your enemy is the MSM.
Rod_Patrick (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 12:15AM EST (link)If McCain’s seven houses indicae his elitism and if Palin is dangerous Christian who wants a redux of Holy War…
Romney will be painted as Richest Mormon Elitist and the King of Apocalypse.
Many people have sided with the liberal media and the congress-run propaganda that the Conservatives are gearing towards the Born Again Christian War against Islam… a MAD war as the Americans voting for Obama are saying.
You should change your viewpoint. That’s the reason why we are defeated today. Many conservatives are lukewarm in fighting the liberal, pacifist, fascist, and socialist propaganda.
Romney wouldn't have won either
zuiko (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 12:25AM EST (link)So I fail to see your point. As for the economy, he showed he was willing to move as far left as required during the primary. I fail to see how that is any different from McCain’s strategy. I was not a McCain supporter in the primary… in fact he was my second to last choice… but I am not delusional enough to think that Romney or any of the other guys we had to pick from could have done well enough to win it in this environment.

Telling the truth would have won
hunter (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 5:59AM EST (link)For example:
The truth that FNMA and FMAC were wrecked by democrats. That its destruction was covered up be democrats. That it was looted by democrats. That the people who looted it went to work for Obama.
That Republicans warned about FNMA. That Republicans fought to save FNMA.
But we have a President who withdrew from leadership after 2005.
We had a candidate who warned of FNMA and declined to talk about it effectively.
There was a LOT more truth out there to tell.
But our nominee could not be bothered to do so.
hunter
True. He could have said alot.
SeriousLaff (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 6:31AM EST (link)Especially during the debates. I was waiting.
$5 a gallon gas doesn’t bother Obama, Dems want to take your 401K, Dems are causing companies to take jobs overseas, Obama wants a civilian police force, Bankrupt coal (there is no reason McCain didn’t have this), Rev Wright…
He had 3 debates to say something and was pretty lame in all of them.
It was said,
Matthew (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 6:37AM EST (link)He DID say it. He brought it up.
The problem was that it never mattered to folks.
Enjoy the new Utopia...
gaspsr1 Wednesday, November 5th at 7:02AM EST (link)The above article is well written–John McCain proves what we should have realized all along. America sees things in black and white (no pun intended) and the man who reached across the aisle and tried to make nice with Kennedy, Feingold, and Leiberman was handed a pretty decent electoral college butt kicking. There is no reaching across the aisle–I don’t think it is significantly different than negotiating with terrorists. There are folks calling for us not to be as angry as the left was toward George Bush, but I don’t see us as being the problem. Again, as in dealing with terrorists, I think there is this sense that if we were just somehow nicer to them, they would like us back and the whole thing would be okay. John McCain thought he would be given a free ride from the media but he was wrong. McCain had a fairly clean past and Obama’s was riddled with questionable associations and statements, and it just didn’t matter. Some things are worth fighting for and conservative principles are one of them. I agree with a poster on this site who said that he is glad in a way that the whole thing is on the Democrats now–let them be responsible for every plague, every storm, every lost job, every pulled muscle in America because there is a side of me that can no longer stand to hear how every problem is because of George Bush. Stand up for conservativism until this site and talk radio gets shut down –at that point, you can go outside and enjoy the new Utopia.
They'll still try to blame the GOP
seattle_ite Wednesday, November 5th at 7:39AM EST (link)If they think they can get away with it. We have to stop letting them get away with framing our positions for us. Here’s hoping that tonights losses spark a resurgence of backbone in the party.
they will have some luck with that, for a while
kyle8 (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 7:52AM EST (link)they can Blame Bush for about eighteen months. But then it’s put up or shut up time.
Look there is always an outside chance that the Dems govern well. They might steer a safe path through recession and stand up to international bullies.
If so, then we have no hope of getting back into power running only on the social issues.
But we both know that is an unlikely scenario.

Too many bad guys wanted Obama
seattle_ite Wednesday, November 5th at 7:57AM EST (link)One can only presume that it was for his percieved weakness toward international bullies. We won’t have to wait long for ‘The Test’ Biden warned us about. He’ll either stand up or fold, and the wrong choice is his political doom.
I know that America won’t stand for another major attack, and a lackluster response from Obama will not bode well for him.
He will probably stand up to the first test
kyle8 (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 8:06AM EST (link)because he will be looking for it. It is the second and third tests that count.

It should be Bush who must be saying that. He's in the WH.
Rod_Patrick (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 8:41AM EST (link)But he never said anything… as in nothing!
Fair point
seattle_ite Wednesday, November 5th at 8:42AM EST (link)Still, won’t be surprised if he makes the wrong move.
This defeat was neither McCain's nor Palin's
ZootSuit (Diary) Wednesday, November 5th at 9:04AM EST (link)This defeat was ours because for nearly eight long years when Republicans were ruining this country by being “compassionate,” we conservatives said nothing and even defended them against the MSM.

Wish the “Compaasion” wasn’t so one way and expensive, though.
