Mohammed was actually quite vocal about the treatment of women. The idea that Islam forces women to wear the hijab is incorrect: That is entirely a cultural aspect of the middle-east.

Indonesia is also Muslim, but many women there dress much like we do, especially in the larger cities.

A Benazir Bhutto was the female Prime Minister of Pakistan, a Muslim nation.

Islam stretches across many parts of Africa, including Ethiopia, Sudan, Nigeria and more, yet women there don't wearn hijab.

Women are supposed to be modest in Islam. Wearing shorts doesn't mean you're immodest.

Want more proof of religion vs culture? Italy vs Ireland. Both Catholic. Very different cultural norms.

He drank in public, he doesn't pray and I'm sure his wife would not be wearing shorts and a tank top or any sleeveless tops in public even if she was a Christian. He wouldn't speak so much about his daughters in public either.

How about you calm down for two seconds and read some of WaP's previous posts before you say things like this?

Or perhaps the school superintendent in your county. I assume they would be the ones to determine that policy. For the record, I think everyone has the right to pray in public as long as they are not insisting that everyone else has to as well.

Not because of praying by other religions. In fact, if any religion offers prayers for the health, safety, well-being of my country, I am delighted. Extremists of any faith can be harmful if they act in a violent manner toward others who do not believe as they do. I believe this country can and does support people of various faiths, who have the freedom to practice their religion and be happy to be American citizens as well.

As far as what BHO does, IMO, he has already shown to me that he may not practice the Christian faith. Nothing new there, I only fault him for his hypocrisy, because he pretended to be something he is not, to get elected.

My faith is important to me, but also the faith of others. I look upon life, as we can use all the help we can get, and I want to see good for my nation, in a peaceful and positive way. Maybe that is an eclectic view of the world, but I don't think it changes out from principle core Conservative values. IMO, if people would actually live and practice the core values of their faith, meant as it should be in current times, then we would not have the major extremists issues we are facing today.

I found a good link, which I posted in another entry: "I'm sorry I freaked everyone out, but..." because I couldn't figure out how to put it in the comment box. (Not too techy!) Check it out...

And regarding praying...yes, people should be allowed to pray in public...so why can't I pray with my students when they meet around the pole? Hmmmm.

I don't get it. I feel like every time religion comes up, it becomes this huge taboo subject. We should be able to talk about it rationally. It's not irrelevant, repressive, or harping-on. I'm really not interested in repressing anyone, which for the love of God should be obvious by this point. It's a valid issue.

I don't think that WaP is really saying that we should prevent people from praying as they see fit. This is America, and that means you're free to pray to Jesus, Buddha, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, George Lucas, or the Easter Bunny--honestly, do what you want. I firmly believe that these people have a right to pray wherever they want. Go for it--I pray in public all the time. What she's saying is that it will be SO FREAKING TYPICAL of this Administration to roll up on this event for all the cameras to see while they have shunned similar, Christian-minded events.
