My New Business Venture: Win Prizes for Having an Opinion

This may seem like a shameless plug for my own product (which it is), but I thought all you RedStaters would find this interesting.

I’ve begun a new project, along with a few friends, to create www.juxtaposd.org. The concept is simple: You write an essay. 500 words or less. If it’s good, people will vote for it. If you get enough votes, you move up through the bracket until you get to the top. You then win a prize. They’ll start out small, like $10 iTunes cards and such, but the more visitors we get, the bigger our prizes can be (most of our money comes from ad revenue).

The main reason I’m posting this, though, is because I wanted to try to encourage RedStaters to contribute to the site. Being on the internet, the site will inherently but slowly become liberally biased… and I want to have a balance. I encourage all of you to come out and write in a good, short article representing exactly what we as conservatives believe in — and your doing so will, in itself, promote and represent the freedom of speech and ideas that we as Americans share.

Also, if you’d like to help support the site financially, you’ll find a “Donate” button on the homepage which will walk you through the steps of sending funds. I’m not here for a bailout, though, so I’d like to ask, as a courtesy, that any donations stay under $15.00. I’d like to try to run the business myself, without too much help from others.

Thanks, RedState!

Don’t Worry, Mr. Obama. Stay as long as you’d like.

And so it begins... Doesn't it sound a bit... Dictatorial?

Today, Rep. Jose Serrano (D, NY-16) introduced an Amendment to the United States Constitution (H.J. Res. 5), to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which sets term limits for Presidents. Full bill text and more info over at OpenCongress. It was deferred to committee, but it’s not a good sign.

111th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. J. RES. 5

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.

The true question here is, are the liberals in Congress insane enough to pass it?

To: The Party / From: The Youth Vote

How to win the youth vote, by one of the youth vote's own.

As you all have seen and will continue to see, many in the Republican Party have been asking the same thing: Why didn’t we win?

That question will undoubtedly be answered in a multitude of ways, with responses covering everything from poor campaign strategies to vote-counting conspiracy theories. This is not a time, however, to look back on what we lost; no, it is a time to look forward to what we can win. In this looking forward, we are looking into the future, and it is that very future of the party which we should be concerned about.

For the record, I’m 17. I can’t vote, but of course I wish I could have, and I do 100% intend to run for political office as soon as it is feasible for me. During this past campaign season, I spent some time working locally here in Illinois for the campaign of Christine Prochno for the Illinois General Assembly’s 66th District. We lost that campaign, and I think [Elk Grove Trustee] Prochno’s main problem was most evident when I walked into her “victory” party:

In a room of about 100 people, I counted 6 who were under the age of 40, one of which was me. I then counted 55 whom I estimated to be over the age of 70.
