By now we have all heard Mizz Garofalo’s rant. We all feelthe outrage. But it is time to pick up the pieces of our own egos and clarify and put her comments in perspective. Mizz Garafolo and the dog slobber that yesterday came from her mouth is symbolic of who we as Tea Party goers need to focus our attack on. It is the supporters of Obama we need to go after– and in the case of Garofalo and others, the supporter’s who have influence and the loudest voices. It won’t be enough to win in Washington. The Culture War is 75 percent of this battle. If we don’t win that fight, any victory in Washington will be hollow; as well the victorious Republican Canidates we elect. How do we this? The answer lies in the following example.
The Dixie Chicks! “The Dixie Who?” you ask. Exactly! This was our finest moment as Conservative Culture Warriors; the year they made those comments over seas about our sitting President( and who I will say is not the same guy who left office this last January). This was the year we told Natalie Maines and her other two harpies to get the hell out of Nashville– and as a result we put them right where they belong– in the obscure coffee houses; the land of silly berets and bad poetry. And, they have been crying ever since.
So let’s bottle up that zeal and do the same to Mizz Garafolo and any other Hollywood scum who cross our paths and assault our country’s values and principles.

If anything, we "banished" the Chicks to a life of wealth
smagar (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 2:02AM EST (link)They are undoubtedly incredibly rich. IIRC, they have apartments in Manhattan. They are now part of the Bush-hating. well-monied elite.
They got a Grammy for their last album. The recording community can’t get enough of them.
And, one of the Chicks said that they were glad to be rid of their hick fans. They’d risen to a new level, and they were happy to leave we trailer park trash behind.
Let’s not fool ourselves. Yes, the Chicks have been forced into a bubble. They’re smart enough to know that, if they step out into sunlight and actually debate their views with a capable consevative, they’ll get crushed.
They also know their bubble is a fabulously comfortable one. That “bubble” encompasses Manhattan, the Hamptons, Hollywood and the chic cities of Europe. So there’s no reason to come out of it. Ever.

They are still country singers and will not make much in the future singing in Manhattan or Hollywood. There dream was to be country stars, they had it, and lost it. In recent years they tried to get back into the mainstream but have had to cancel numerous shows because of lack of ticket sales. They may be “rich” as you say, but they still screwed up. People are not going to listen to music forever simply because they agree with the band’s politics.

Unfettered immigration from not all nations, but just one or two has caused a major change in the electorate. The NEA, the drive by media, and the mental simplicity of liberalism are major structural obstacles. In most of history it is wrong to say “this time it is different”, but in this case it is true. The country we were born into is not the country we live in today.

Achance (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 5:04AM EST (link)and we simply don’t have that any more. We have reached a medieval level of ignorance and superstition. The populus will believe anything if it is told stylishly or told by someone they’ve been conditioned to recognize and respect, hence the power of celebrities. The World was a much better place when actress, singer, and whore were pretty much synonyms.
In Vino Veritas
That's not only untrue...
fmaidment (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 7:27AM EST (link)It is a perversion of history to believe that “actress, singer, and whore were pretty much synonyms” at one time.
Actors and singers have long been highly regarded in every society except Puritanical Britain/New England and Dark Ages Europe. Your statement is not only offensive, but completely lacks any historical basis of fact.
Would you say the same of male actors? Because then Ronald Reagan and Charlton Heston would be included. Even keeping men out of it, what about conservative women like Martina McBride and Angie Harmon (of Law & Order fame)?
The Dipsy Twits were thoughtless and ignorant, as are many entertainers, but that’s no reason to throw everyone in that industry under the bus.

Oh, come now; you're not that naive.
Achance (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 7:55AM EST (link)We’re not talking about Greek plays, Shakespearians and Grand Opera. I agree that that sort of actor, actress, and singer has long been highly respected in Western culture. Those doing the popular theater, whether in Imperial Rome or the American West of the 19th Century enjoyed a somewaht different social status.
In Vino Veritas
No, I'm not that naive.
fmaidment (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 8:53AM EST (link)In popular fiction of the day (and again later in the “Westerns” era of movies), actors and singers were poorly regarded as whores and theives. It is true that some semi-professional and amateur actors and actresses sometimes turned tricks or picked pockets to make rent.
But the professional actor and singer has throughout history been a highly regarded individual among societies the world-over. And that does not necessarily include Shakespeare, Greek plays and Grand Opera.
John Wilkes Booth was, before killing Abraham Lincoln, a highly regarded popular theater actor. William Shakespeare was, in his day, a popular playwright no different in public stature than, say, the Cohen Brothers or Stanley Kubrick. Ronald Reagan and Charlton Heston, I’ve already mentioned, were popular actors before their political activities.
Does this mean we give them special treatment when they spout off with liberal diatribes? No. But it does mean we shouldn’t grossly overgeneralize and exaggerate.
That’s exactly the kind of reasoning of which Ms. Garofalo is guilty and for which we here at Redstate excoriate her.

These are the “role models” that get pushed in our kids’ faces every day 24/7, their lifestyles set up as the height of achievement.
Put into the context of what Jamie Foxx said about Miley Cyrus, I believe his assessment is quite appropriate. Anyone not following that kind of lifestyle seems to be relegated to the C-list of entertainment.

Oh, and – having nothing whatsoever to do with your “current troubles” in this thread – feminism, and the NAACP, have both succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. I can recall having the comment tossed at me that “women and minorities have to be twice as good as white males” to advance. Those same folks also tossed the names of incompetent and corrupt white males at me, demanding that I defend their ascendancy to power (corporate, not political).
Obviously, you just have to glance around to see that both wymyn and mynorytyes have finally made the grade. Just take a quick look at the number of totally incompetent member of those two groups who have ascended to power.
Government clerical, technical, and professional jobs,
Achance (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 2:09PM EST (link)often have white males as the “underutilized class” for EEO purposes so you have to take affirmative steps to try to find a male, often in jobs that males have never shown the slightest interest in.
The headline maker for AA is the woman without the required physical strenghth using EEO to force her way into a firefighting job, but more common is the dumb as a stump young guy who should be on a fishing boat or construction site trying to work as a clerk in a government office. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried to send some baggy pants punk right out of high school to enough charm school classes that he can respectably handle the front desk and answer the phone!
As mysogynist in chief most of my professional staff, all but one for the majority of my tenure as a section head or director, were women that I hired and trained who had either come up through the HR line or who were lawyers. I made one who I hired out of the HR chain my deputy and she went from that to the State’s Director of Personnel and then took on the LR function after I retired. Her sucessor on the LR side was a woman lawyer that I hired. My misogyny made them among the highest ranking and best paid people in the Executive Branch.

Doc Holliday (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 9:25PM EST (link)I have slowly come to realize that that is the major flaw in our system. Without an informed electorate and/or an electorate that cares about our values, we could lose everything others have built and handed to us.
Even Monarchs are trained about their country’s values and how things should and should not be done. For 230+ years, our children have learned these things from their elders and passed them down to their children.
Now we have institutionalized a mental deficit in the population by our own hands. One day they will damn our era, the several generations from Boomers ’til now, that through their own decadence, “lost America”.

People do it on their own.
Steph C (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 9:03AM EST (link)Look, the news stations, especially MSNBC, are hurting badly. They’re ratings and ad sales are down. Hollywood is also hurting because they’re pulling more flops than hits. A few months back I heard talk of a bailout for Hollywood and there was some legislation included in one of the bills, too, for that matter. Now, there’s talk of nationalizing newspapers.
There is no need to call for a boycott. There’s a defacto boycott on now because the people are fed up with everything.
Yes, the Dixie Chics were boycotted and they had to reinvent themselves. They might still be rich but I doubt that’s small comfort to them in their little bubble of elite adulation.
And I wish people would stop buying into the European anti-American crap they’re being fed. One question will stop that one in its tracks. If so many people hate America, why are they going to great efforst to immigrate here? They’re only anti-American when America expects anything of them. They’re so far gone in their socialist policies they can’t find the will to do anything for themselves anymore.
The possibility that the U.S. will follow suit in becoming socialist, or worse, scares them white haired.
The pressure is on although the clues are subtle. Yesterday, in a very short sound byte on Fox, Obama said he has a plan for small businesses and entrepeneurs. Now, we know he has no such plans but coming immediately after all the reaction to the tea parties, he’s going to play it cool until he can cook up one. He thinks to bribe us into silence.
If the government learns nothing else from the Tea Party, it should learn we won’t be bribed. We will not trade out country’s future for a facsimile of comfort now. The guy in IL versus Roesgan should have taught them that.
Instead of calling for boycotts and the like, since we do those anyway of our own accord, we simply need to keep doing what we did on the 15th. Up until now, we’ve been considered mice, grumbling about everything but doing nothing through Clinton, Bush, and now Obama.
This is the year the mice are roaring.
