Unlike 1993, the dem strategy is to hold it off until a window occurs in which it can pass. It's good to know that it can be stopped - as long as we keep it up. But isn't delaying it the best play for dems, ultimately maximizing its shot of passing? If continuing debate forces a softer version of it (Cap'n Tax OR healthcare), I suppose thats better. The Senate Democrats dropped immediate consideration of the bill because of popular pressure. Attempting to get it passed and failing now would kill the bill until 2010, and they are already nervous about that milestone. I believe they intend to pass it after some catastrophic weather event arises in the summer (e.g.a strong hurricane, a heat wave, etc.), something they can use to hang like an albatross about the necks of AGW opponents. They have this and next summer before they lose the House. As you all well know, having meetings in an exceptionally cool year, in the the winter, caused some seriously ridiculous problems for zealots. But, now that Cap and Tax appears to put off until later this year, we will probably focus our efforts instead on Debtocrat Rep. Harry "the professional politician" Mitchell. He still hasn't answered my question as to whether he'll sign in writing a pledge that he will, if the Obamacare bill has a "public option," ditch his Congressional healtcare coverage and "opt in" to the public option. Maybe on the 17th we'll get an answer.
