5-4 on 2 and 0 for 1 on 1st

The supreme court ruling affirming the second amendment’s right to own a gun is deeply disappointing in some ways to twb.

The obvious problem is 4 chisel headed justices believe that we do not have the right to own a gun.

The Wise Latina (twl) was a supreme disappointment in her first written work. ”I can find nothing in the Second Amendment’s text, history or underlying rationale that could warrant characterizing it as fundamental insofar as it seeks to protect the keeping and bearing of arms for private self-defense purposes.”

Sonia? Really? Check this out. Granted, the Second Amendment is a tricky one. Here it is – in its entirety:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Wow. You could write millions of words explaining this to her but it would not help. This is the writing of a biased justice. A thumb on the scale as her politics are more important than our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

You can argue that there is room for government regulation (from the phrase “A well regulated”).

You can argue that there should be wide open access and freedom (from the phrase the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed).

You can argue that there is a point in between that allows legal gun ownership.

But I offer it is nearly impossible to to argue from the text of the amendment that there is no right to gun ownership for self protection from predators big and small.

Sotomayor is sadly moronic.

And quite scary. We should all be afraid – that if the vote was to ever tip over to 4-5 and gun ownership was struck down – the original intent of the framers may become painful obvious as gun owners join ranks of a well regulated militia to free their state from the tyranny and oppression of their out of touch central government.

twb thanks God that Kagan is going to replace one of the misguided 4 and not tip the scales of justice toward the unjust justice.

Scraping Off Obama

The 2010 Elections may become known as THE YEAR OF THE SCRAPER.

On a recent long drive from Atlanta to Washington D.C. to Annapolis I noticed a trend. A significant trend.

Millions of Obama stickers, formerly stuck all over fuel efficient cars of all kinds, were missing.

Driving for over 600 miles the 4 of us noticed only 4 Obama stickers. 1 was of the mocking variety – the How is that Hopey Changey thing working out for you? – kind. So we only saw three.

Of the three – one was on the car we parked behind at 37th and O – outside Georgetown University. Which could be disqualified from our data since an Obama sticker was, not long ago, akin to a parking pass on many liberal campuses.

But nowhere on the trek was there even a smattering of stickers. No pod of Priuses driving too slow in the passing lane lined up like fuel efficient ducks straining to waddle up the hill. Even the crazy people with a thousand stickers covering the entire back of their vehicles seemed to be missing the Obama sticker. (In this case a scrape may not have been used – but it simply may have been paved over by a sticker from another failed liberal cause.)

On the very same drive taken less than 90 days before, the Obama sticker were everywhere.

Women for Obama. Obama/Biden, Latinos for Obama, Hope, Change….the variety was endless.

While there are more scientific polls out there for sure – this one may be the most accurate reflection of the nation’s mood.

It is one thing to be swept up in the excitement of an historic election and slap on a sticker. It is quite another to find a tool, walk out to your car, and remove all evidence of your involvement in that historic election. This action – this choice to remove the evidence - hints of embarrassment over making a public mistake.

To remove it you must first be aware that it is making you uncomfortable. Somewhere along the line an Obama bumper sticker has become the equivalent of walking around with your fly down. As soon as you are made aware of it – you fix the problem as clandestinely as possible. Zip and you are back to your normal role in society no longer quietly mocked.

For the Obama sticker removal process it is even tougher. You need a tool. A razor blade or a high quality scraper. A putty knife might do – but leaving a tell tale residue only will highlight you tried to remove it. This task will now take multiple tools and some solvent. Quietly, at night in your garage you remove the offending adhesive. You have changed your car’s appearance and now hope to ease out in to traffic the next morning with out any friends or neighbors asking about the delicate deletion.

Replay this scene a million times. Pried from a Prius. Stripped from a Saturn. Vacuumed from a Volvo.

Drivers are voting with their scrapers and removing all evidence of their involvement with the current president. Of that twb is sure.

What does this mean? It means the polls are only partially showing a portion of America’s dislike, disdain and distrust of the current administration. Approval and Disapproval is measured by Rasmussen and Gallup.

Absolute abandonment is measured by applying adhesive remover.

The net-net of this sticky situation? The bumper sticker poll is indicating loss of at least one house of congress and the trend does not look good for the non-scraping liberals.

twb

Obama’s Premise of American Failure

It has bothered twb for a while that something was missing from the Healthcare debate.

Tonight it hit me. The entire premise of health care is we as citizens are failures. We are unable – in his mind to care for ourselves.

If he thought for one minute, Americans could care for themselves, the only change to Healthcare necessary would be to make it tax deductible. The idea of allowing healthcare (and education) costs in their entirety from our taxes however, draws a terrible line – that is more scary than the healthcare monster.

This line – the line between “we need charity” or “we can take care of ourselves” is a big dark line.

Clearly the President believes we are not able to care for ourselves. Through his healthcare demand he has labeled us all non-self-sufficient failures. That is his view of America. It’s too hard. You can’t make it (with out my help). Don’t try.

That underlying message is sadly creating a self fulfilling prophecy.

If this President or any president wanted to truly help our healthcare he would incentivize us to work, work hard and keep more of what we earn.

The same goes for educating our children.

But there too – he believes we are incapable and irresponsible.

That view of America has to end.

Red(Wine)State – Pinot Noir and Capitalism

The Weekly Bito introduces a new Saturday feature – Wine Stories.

Recently TWB attended the High Museum Wine Auction (our 8th or 9th year as a volunteer) and spent some time with brilliant wine makers. One of their stories documents why America is still a great country and gives us reason to celebrate American achievements in the face of adversity.

Kosta Browne 2007 Pinot Noir is a highly rated and reviewed wine. The Wine Spectator ranked it 4th out of all the wines released in 2009 that they were able to review. This is 4th out of many thousands.

With a 95 point rating and a Mid $50′s price point this is attainable extravagance. Not and everyday bottle – but still within reach.

More important to twb is the story of the winemakers. Michael Browne and Dan Kosta. Michael and Dan worked for a very fine restaurant (John Ash & Co.) while trying to attain other career goals. Michael – who twb met with – worked as a waiter, bar tender and line cook. Doing what he could to make a living. Eventually he fell hard for the local wine culture and spent two years as a sommelier on the floor of the restaurant.

It is during this time of struggle – and self improvement that Michael and Dan pooled two months of tips and bought a half ton of pinot noir grapes and a hand crusher to produce the very first Kosta Browne Wine.

From these humble beginnings American capitalism took root. They worked with out compensation for established wine makers (violating minimum wage laws – but adding and extracting much greater value) to learn their craft. They looked for investors and found Chris Costello. With new skills, deep experience and fresh capital - they have built a company and a reputation that will serve them well for many years to come.

The time between carrying a tray and carrying the reputation of an excellent wine house? Nearly 20 years. Dedication and endurance need to be returned to the American work ethic.

If you can find the 2007 Pinot Noir scoop it up fast. If not the 2008 is the more recent release. twb does not review – there are brilliant people who can do that much better – but our own experience was:

Dark Cherry – ripe fruit – intense aromas and flavors all melt in to a smooth long lasting finish on the palate. Aromas of chocolate and flowers dominate.

twb loves this wine. The wine stands on its own merits. The winemakers stand on their own merits as well.

The two combined make Kosta Browne Sonoma Pinot Noir a great addition to your wine repertoire.

Florida Urologist Tells Liberals: Go Piss Up A Rope

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-mount-dora-doctor-tells-patients-go-aw20100401,0,5593120.story

This link (as seen on (The Drudge Report) will take you to the story of a Florida Urologist expressing his First Amendment Rights to free speech and Association.

Drudge missed a rare headline opportunity – which twb - captures neatly above.

While the doctor is ethically prohibited from denying care for any patient based on political view point.

He is able to express his desire to treat a subset of patients to his choosing.

This will be lost on our liberal citizens.

Baucus Admits Redistribution of Wealth Scheme for Healthcare

“Too often, much of late, the last couple three years, the mal-distribution of income in American is gone up way too much, the wealthy are getting way, way too wealthy and the middle income class is left behind,” he said. “Wages have not kept up with increased income of the highest income in America. This legislation will have the effect of addressing that mal-distribution of income in America.”

Baucus on Fox as Reported by Breitbart.

At least it is getting easier to spot the bad guys.

Kill “Big Burger” Save “Big Insurance”

United Health – the largest health insurer in the country has profit margins of 4.3%.
McDonald’s – the largest fast food chain in the country has profit margins of 20.03%.
Based on latest filings.

Assuming a causal relationship – that many of McDonald’s customers end up relying on healthcare to bail them out of their bad dietary habits – weekly/bito suggests that the White House now target “big burger” to help lower healthcare costs – requiring free medical care with any value meal.

It is not likely United will be able to remain profitable with the newest mandate from the Democrats in Congress and the White House.
McDonald’s is expected to do just fine.

“A Victory for the American People”

When President Obama used that phrase last night in praise of the passage of the Healthcare bill he was cutting his true thoughts short. What he wanted to say was:

A Victory for the American People – who don’t pay for things, a massive defeat for the people who do.

A Victory for the American People – who continue to take out more than they put in.

A Victory for the American People - who are dumb enough to believe that the process still works.

A Victory for the American People – who don’t contribute to America’s success.

A Victory for the American People – and a massive defeat for the American family which used to be the first unit of government.

A Victory for the American People – and the destruction of the health care system that used to be the envy of the world.

A Victory for the American People – a bummer for the 85% of you who like your current insurance.

A Victory for the American People – who could not bare to see me be a lame duck in the first 18 months of my disastrous first and only term.

A Victory for the American People – based on a wild whopping lie to Bart Stupak.

A Victory for the American People – who still believe Social Security and Medicare are well run programs.

A Victory for the American People – who will come out in force in November and reclaim the house and the Senate

A Victory for the American People – (fill in the blank for me Red Staters …..)
