A couple of years ago I was teaching my 8th grade class and we were having a discussion over a story or something when the subject of the elderly and nursing homes came up. I brought up the incredible cost inflicted upon families sometimes and one brainchild said: “Why don’t we just put them to sleep like an old dog?” Literally. About half the class agreed and the other half was appalled. I;ll never forget it as long as I’m allowed to live.

In the meantime and on a personal level, my parents (dad’s 88 and mom’s 83) are together in a nursing home. The first inkling that something’s amiss with their care and treatment beacuse of any government edict or bureaucratic nonsense, I’ll have to be ‘bug zapped’ to stop me from starting a real shooting war.

Really.

Few have any experience of the aging and dying any more. In my youth, I knew my grandparents and evern, for awhile, great grandparents. I was considered the family duty to take care of them in their dottage, and it isn’t an easy thing. I think it is pretty much and impossible thing for a working couple – and that’s a whole ‘nuther diary.

We all managed to do right by the elders up though my grandmother; she spent her last days incompetent and incontinent, but she spent them at home and she died in her own bed. I was far away so all I did was contribute some money, not enough looking back, and my sister had the duty mostly. That said, she lived in a house on the family place that she’s never made a mortgage payment on; that’s one of those family things and it has its own price.

We couldn’t do it for our parents because we were both working and just couldn’t take care of them. My dad never was really incapacitated; he ran his store until the end, not very well, but he ran it, and went from his store to the doctor, to the hospital, to his grave. Not a bad way, I guess. We ultimately couldn’t take care of my mother, so she had to go to a nursing home and ended her days there.

I don’t know; we’ve provided for ourselves unless Comrade Obama confiscates it, but it seemed that the choice was being taken care of by family who resented it or by healthcare workers who saw you as a piece of furniture. I don’t want my children to resent me – more than they already do anyway. Hopefully, I’ll retain the presence of mind to just take a long walk on the glacier or have the courage to have oral sex with my PPK.

Thanks to RR the GOP owned the WWII generation. Well, my mother is 84 and I did not have the time to get her to the polls for a primary recently.

Let us focus on the Echo Boomers. Born 1990 to 2000. Big group. Here they go to the biggest special interest group rip-off there is, post-secondary education. DC has lots of loan programs so the college industry can get paid.

But, what if we refocused the Dept of Ed to protecting undergrads and grads?
What if there were alternative means for degree credit?

The intelligentsia on the Left aren’t even batting an eyelid.
The Left has probably been too busy strapping on their own Chris Matthews’ leg bags to contain the tingle they feel running down their legs when they hear THE OBAMBI’s name mentioned or hear him speak to notice.
As a warning to those of us, white, male and sixty and over, the prototypical Republican voter, it is to your advantage to get whatever elective medical processes you feel are necessary done now, because under ObamaCare, THE OBAMBI would much rather see you die quietly of a failure to treat than have to order his ACORN thugs to shoot you openly in the street.
THE OBAMBI was first noticed politically by his adroit manipulation of the system that allowed him to run unopposed for office. His fondest wish is to govern unopposed.

So, with Abortion, it’s between a woman and a doctor. But, for a hip replacement, it’s between the Government and the doctor? I don’t get it.

My grandmother had a pacemaker put in at age 90, and lived 9 more years, seven of them in her own home, still preparing meals for family every Sunday. My dad, age 84, had 2 stents at age 79 after a mild heart attack. Mom, age 79, had a pacemaker put in 3 years ago. They still live in their own home, and Mom still takes homemade food to sick people. Dad taught Sunday School up until a few months ago. They still have much value to their family and community.

I am sickened and disgusted by the way Obama is determined to have this country follow him off the cliff on healthcare like mindless lemmings. I think he knows how wrong this is and doesn’t care. I’d hate for my children to be like him.

But that’s not all he said:

Jane Sturm told the story of her nearly 100-year-old mother, who was originally denied a pacemaker because of her age. She eventually got one, but only after seeking out another doctor.

“Outside the medical criteria,” Sturm asked, “is there a consideration that can be given for a certain spirit … and quality of life?”

“I don’t think that we can make judgments based on peoples’ spirit,” Obama said. “That would be a pretty subjective decision to be making. I think we have to have rules that say that we are going to provide good, quality care for all people.

“We’re not going to solve every single one of these very difficult decisions at end of life,” he said. “Ultimately that’s going to be between physicians and patients.”

He said, in more words, “I would let your mother die to save money.”

That’s a little more personal than just “old folks,” methinks.

Still, he lied…

No, no it won’t. It will be a bureaucrat that makes the decision. The doctor will have little say.

Obama’s statement about his grandmother is very interesting.

First, that’s the very thing for which the left EXCORIATES insurance companies, unfeeling corporations and all that. How is it any better when a government bureacracy does it?

Second, that is the type of decision best undertaken between the patient and doctor, why do we need someone else to do a cost/benefit analysis on our FAMILY?

they trotted out a Doctor from the Mayo clinic to do the same. Anyone thinking of going to the Mayo clinic better rethink that decision. You may get Dr. Mengela.

How many Doctors think this way? It is scary.

How about people who watch the Jerry Springer show? There are lots of useless people we could phase out like short, white baskertball players and anyone with a law degree that got into law school on an affirmative action waiver.

I think we also could ethically withhold treatment from Philadelphia Eagles fans, UAW pensioners and all residents of San Francisco.

I even would go so far as to cut payments for Nancy Pelosi’d botox injections, that would save enough money to pay for Bill Clinton’s STD treatments.

Yep, the more I think about it, I should be in charge of the decision process.

I already know what he spin will be: He meant that families ought to be better informed so they know when further treatment is futile. Straight out the liberal playbook of lies. ‘Cause it’s BS. About 5 years ago a good friend died of cancer. Last few months he was on so much painkiller; it was enough that you or I would be knocked out. At the end, he’s in the hospital bed, doctor says, only thing we can do now is steadily increase the morphine until he loses consciousness and passes. Doctors are already doing what the left will claim Dr. Utopia meant.
