when birth control pills began to be easily available to young women - without their parents knowing about it. Heretofore, the only readily availble birth control method was condoms and even they were hard for young guys to get - stealing them from the old man was the preferred method, if available. In actuality, even with "going steady" couples that were having sex, "Vatican Roulette" was the most common method with predictable consequences.

Even in the very conservative, Bible Belt South of the '50s and early '60s, there were some girls who would, but most wouldn't and all were terrified of getting pregnant. (And, yes, I'm laying it all on the girls because unless a guy is willing to use force, it is all up to her; either she is willing to have sex or she's not.) Even the guys were terrified of getting a girl pregnant because the "shotgun wedding" might well really involve a shotgun. By the time I was in college beginning in '67, any girls who wanted them had birth control pills and sex became casual and expected; all it took was proximity, time, and a little alcohol or drugs helped.

Now mothers are putting their daughters on birth control pills at puberty and schools are giving away condoms, so teenage sex is pretty much universal.

Hospitals really push the epidural because it's a huge profit center in birthing centers. What they don't do is share with mothers are the risks of the procedure.

the single woman or empty nest married women and her dedication to her animals, but they miss that it fills a desire in woman to take care of something that needs them.

I live in an apartment complex with lots of young adults, it's kind of weird seeing so many couples with dogs when it would seem like they should be having babies, so that isn't what I'm talking about, I mean like women that aren't married or those that are married and have grown kids and are past childbearing age that have animals.

I am a school teacher so I see this. But I am not convinnced that things are a whole lot different than the past.

I grew up in the Disco era of the late 1970's and even though I was sort of a nerd I had NO problem getting laid in high school.

But let's go back to the conservative 1950's, Did you know that when they first started doing routine blood tests for all families at hospitals that they had to stop when they found out that as many as 30% of the so called fathers were not the actual fathers?

/ the truth is that people have always been sexually active at about the age 16. It is just in the past that woman usually got some boy to marry them.

It's not necessarily a good thing for a girl to go off to college at the age of 18 still a virgin. That's what happened to my ex-wife; she went off to college and out from under her parents' roof and proceeded to start making up for lost time. Needless to say, she didn't finish her sophomore year, at that college anyways.

She had been raped at the age of 9, so it took her most of a decade before she was willing to give boys a chance again.

about not relying on a man's self control. I'm against contraception but I never thought about it emasculating a man, that is a really good point.

You are so right about what people mean when they say space. Plus the churches basically teach if people don't have "me time" they will not be able to function.. there is no preaching about dedication and walking the second mile. So the divorced women basically say kids are with __ for the weekend and everyone cheers her on for taking time alone..

I was lucky from 15 - 17 I lived with an Aunt that never dated but I saw it with my friends parents. My BFF mom would leave her alone every weekend and eventually her adult sister's x boyfriends started coming around on the weekends, they saw she was always there alone. I was kind of naive at the time but looking back it's is just heart breaking. She already saw men with her mom and sister being there you know it didn't like alarm her when they showed up to be with her.

I know at least one woman who, twenty years ago when she was a teenager, was far more sexually active with other girls than with boys. Her parents who wouldn't have even thought of letting a boy in her room behind closed doors didn't think twice about the all-girl slumber parties. The groups that are smart enough to post a lookout generally don't get caught doing such things.

many doctors won't administer the spinal anesthetic commonly used during childbirth if the woman has a tramp stamp for fear of introducing the ink into her spinal fluid. I bet the tat artists don't tell the little darlings that part.

In their desire to establish the state as all-powerful, the totalitarian left has alwsy acted to destroy the family unit. Many of the European socialist states (which is the model that most of fashionable liberals like Valenti) also wish to break up the traditional family unit of one man-one women for life.

Mostly this is achieved through the children including the followsing: claiming that the state's claim on children supercedes that of their parents, the state consequently asserting the right to control the children's education (hence laws that make home schooling illegal, like modern Germany), promulgation of various childrens' rights at the cost of parental power, provoking children to challenge their parent's values and to "think for themselves" which translates to accepting the values of the left, and finally the deliberate culitvation of a youth subculture that rejects parental involvement and disdains the goal of the youth forming families - substituting instead unrestrained sexual activity.

The result is to destroy individual personhood and replace with absorption into a state-created group identity. And families are anathema because they create loyalties which compete with the ultimate loyalty to the state that the left demands.

It is this last aspect particularly the Valenti is contributing to with her assault on the value of virginity - which involves denigrating self discipline, restraint, deferral of self-gratification, saving and investing for the future - those things that support individual identity and those same values which are the foundation for forming a family (self-denial, deferal of gratification, etc..)

As a side effect, this also creates a self-perpetuating abortion ethic (and industry) - more sex without commitment produces more unintended babies, which then need to be killed because they are inconvenient. The breakdown in behavior justifies abortion, and the easy availability of abortion makes unrestrained sexual activity less consequential.

And with the rise in sexually transmitted diseases, we will have more sterility and fewer babies, which will slow down and perhaps even reverse population growth.

We've got the left's trifecta going here.

I think that explains a lot of why so many single/divorced women so loved Bill Clinton; they just knew that if he were with them, they'd be able to keep that big, handsome man from cheating.

I scratch my head in amazement listening to 'feminists' decry the 'women shouldn't just be sex objects' while they constantly encourage them to be...... sex objects.

A casual perusal of the 'flagship' publication of feminsim - Cosmopolitan - will reveal that about 80% of the articles are about looking hot and getting laid. Huh?? I thought the 'modern woman' wanted to be known for her brains not her beauty?

I actually 'shamed' a feminist coworker of mine into discontinuing her subscription to Cosmo by having that conversation with her, and then every month as I'd see her issue of Cosmo sitting on her desk, going in....reading off the titles of the articles on the cover, looking at her and saying something along the lines of "brains over beauty, eh?" It was a beautiful day when she announced, in response to my "I haven't seen a copy of Cosmo on your desk for a while?" that she had grown sick of the hypocrisy of a feminist publication constantly talking about women as sex objects.

Score one for our side :-)
