If They Even Lost Kos, Geithner is Doomed

The lefties are getting restless over the many failures of Geithner, is Obama's guy at Treasury doomed?

Certainly one cannot say that Markos Moulitsas, the fellow that invented DailyKos.com, is the sage of the Democratic Party specifically or the left generally, but he does have a certain following as well as a high profile among activists if not Party regulars and political bosses. So when Kos begins Twittering that Sec. of the Treasury Tim Geithner is failing, this is not a good sign for Obama’s guy.

On Sunday, March 23, Kos wrote a Twitter posting stating “Geithner is starting to look like Obama’s Rumsfeld.”

To employ a saying: I know Donald Rumsfeld, Tim Geithner is no Donald Rumsfeld. Still, this could mark the beginning of the end of Tim Geithner as Obama’s Sec. of Treasury. His bad start when his tax cheating was revealed, compounded with his lackluster performances in press conferences, his claims that the next press conference will have all the answers at which time he tells us the same thing he’s already said, and, finally, his mishandling of the AIG bonuses incident is a veritable cornucopia of failure. For a man that is supposedly the smartest president we’ve had since Carter his choice of Geithner is not reassuring. And when even a kool aide drinker like Kos starts dissing Obama’s guy, well, who cannot suspect that the end is near?

Of course, the better comparison, at least as far as public perception is concerned, is not Donald Rumsfeld. It is, rather, Bush’s hurricane Katrina morass with one time FEMA boss Michael Brown. The media made a big deal of it when President Bush said, “You’re doing a heckuva job, Brownie” as the post Katrina mess deepened. Here we see revealed the same sort of tin-ear that Bush showed as everything spun out of control after Katrina with his blind support of Brown in Obama’s blind support of Geithner.

The disappointment in Geithner is almost palpable on the left and it seems that one of the last voices to check in against the Sec. of Treasury is Moulitsas,’ a sign of how much trouble Obama’s guy is in with those on his own side of the aisle.

So, the question is fast coming to that of wondering how much longer Obama can continue to stubbornly support Geithner? Or will Obama resort to his campaign penchant of tossing Timmy under the Obama bus? If Obama cannot even keep his own side on track in support of Geithner, this does not speak well to the Treasury boss’ future.

I wonder what his replacement would be like

bk (Diary) Monday, March 23rd at 6:11AM EST (link)

After all, when he was nominated we were told …
- from the left that he was “uniquely qualified” for the job, i.e. the only person in the world who could do it, so we should overlook that he was a tax cheat.
- from the right that all the other possible choices Obama could make would be even worse, so we should overlook that he was a tax cheat.

"tax cheat"

olsmithie (Diary) Monday, March 23rd at 11:22AM EST (link)

If they nominate another Democrat, Obey will just have to deal with another tax cheat. Being a tax cheat in that crowd just makes you one of the guys…
They wear corruption like a (Chicago) badge of honor.

is if Rahm and company can come up with a plan that focus group testing shows they can get away with blaming Republican partisanship for it. Couldn’t you see Geithner resigning to spend more time with his family and then Obama reading from the telepromter:
(FURROW BROW)
IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS
THAT I ACCEPT TIM GEITHNER’S
RESIGNATION. HE DID A GREAT
SERVICE TO OUR NATION.
(BEGIN TO RAISE VOICE)
IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT
DESPITE MY REPEATED
OUTREACH TO THE REPUBLICAN
PARTY THAT
(SOUND ANGRY; RAISE VOICE MORE)
THEY CONTINUE TO OPERATE
IN A PARTISAN, OBSTRUCTIVE
MANNER AND HAVE INDICATED
THAT THEY WILL REFUSE TO
WORK WITH MR GEITHNER.
(SOFTEN VOICE; LOOK SERIOUS;
STARE INTO THE CAMERA AND
NOT AT ME THE TELEPROMTER)
AS I PROMISED DURING THE
CAMPAIGN, I WOULD WORK
WITH BOTH PARTIES AND I HAVE
YET TO SEE THE REPUBLICANS
COOPERATE ON A SINGLE ISSUE.
(QUIT LOOKING AT ME; STARE
BACK INTO THE CAMERA STUPID)
THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY
IS AT STAKE AND
(START CHUCKLING. OH WAIT
NEVER MIND; WRONG SETTING)
THE OTHER PARTY NEEDS TO
QUIT ACTING LIKE A BUNCH OF
RETARDS. I HOPE THEY WILL
WORK WITH THE NEW TREASURY
SECRETARY ON SOLVING OUR
NATION’S PROBLEMS. THANK YOU.

If Obama's history of "supporting his people" is any indication, Geithner's got less than a month.

The Problem With......

…this Treasury Secretary is that his replacement will be even worse than him.
“My nomination for Secretary of the Treasury is …….. William Ayers.”, followed by a five year economic and social plan called the ‘Great Leap Forward.’
The 2010 election is becoming more and more important every second. The overwhelmingly urgent need is to elect enough Conservative Senators and Representatives to Congress to stop this Moron and his imminent train wreck of the United States in his tracks.
No Government at all is infinitely better than a Government consisting of this pack of howling baboons.

It looks like a "win win" situation to me.

NeoKong (Diary) Monday, March 23rd at 7:27AM EST (link)

It Geithner stays he will be a constant source of criticism and anger directed at Obama. All the economy’s ill can be pinned on him.
If Geithner leaves it will be a huge embarrassment for Obama and make him look incompetent .Then Obama will be forced to go through a very public search for a new SOT under heavy public scrutiny and look like a dope.
It’s bad for Obama either way.

Actually, I'd cast it as a lose-lose-lose situation.

The_Gadfly (Diary) Monday, March 23rd at 11:35AM EST (link)

Obama loses. Geithner loses. And the American people lose because regardless of the outcome, team O still won’t have anybody who has any conception of how economies really work and the mess will just continue. People will continue to lose jobs, lose investment value, and possibly even lose hope. Win-Win situations are good places for everyone to be in. Lose-lose situations suck, and lose-lose-lose situations are even worse. And at least as far as I’m concerned, winding up in a lose-lose-lose situation is an unforgivable sin in politics.

Look at it a different way.

Things have been getting worse because Barack Obama crammed this guy Geithner down our throats.
Do you remember…?
He said “I won” and maybe you people should stop listening to Rush Limbaugh.
Obama put all his eggs in Geithner’s basket and told us that he was the only guy in the world who can save us from the end of America as we know it.
He did.
He was obnoxious and arrogant. He ridiculed anyone (Republicans) who disagreed with him,.Didn’t he?He told a few little lies too.Isn’t that true?He tried the schorched earth policy.

I think the best thing in the world for Barack Obama is a little failure,a good public flogging and a nice big slice of humble pie.
Geithner is his baby and so is the AIG bonus thing.
Let him eat it.
If he is truly as incompetent as he has been looking lately then knocking him down a few pegs might keep him in check and less able to do some more damage.

The big uniter my ass.

Geithner’s latest plan for getting rid of “troubled assets” looks like another dumb move. The only way private investors are going to get on board here is if the profits are a sure thing. Risk in this market is not very appealing which is why taxpayers will be obligated to take it on themselves. This is a classic government give away disguised as something less irresponsible.

In Brownie’s defense, right now a former judge for the International Arabian Horse Association might be a safer bet than this Geithner clown.

And I heard this morning that Obama is retreating

from demanding that the AIG bonus recipients pay 90% in taxes. Afterall, he needs these sops to buy up the toxic assets. The only reason I’m not even MORE angry about the whole hypocritical congress and AIG thing is that apparently, most of the executives at these wall street firms are democrats, who voted for Obama. So it’s sort of a twisted justice, in a way…

For all his many shortcomings, Geithner remains the best possible Treasury Secretary we are likely to get in this Administration. Obama just announced his nomination for the SECOND of the 19 top posts at Treasury appointed by the President. No one wants to take on these jobs – even the Democrats with near qualifications know Obama’s policies are toxic to the economy, and they aren’t willing to take the pay cut just to have their reputations destroyed.

For those on the right delighting in Geithner’s troubles, there is a word: IDIOTS. If he falls on his face, it won’t be just something to beat up Obama with, you morons. It will truly mean a long, worldwide recession approaching Depression depth.

There is no way to spin that as good for the economy, the country, or even the GOP.

Dumbasses.

so, you've been here four years, and you still manage to be of the opinion

randy streu (Diary) Monday, March 23rd at 10:53PM EST (link)

that blabbering on with absolutely no coherent argument, other than to call people “idiots,” “morons” and “dumbasses” is a solid way to carry on a conversation?

Other than your condescending and insulting epithets, you really have nothing to say of substance. You come off less like a political thinker (as you clearly style yourself) and more like Chris Crocker, hiding under your blanket, telling us we just don’t deserve Tim Geithner.

Try using coherent argument, instead of empty platitudes and insults.

Dumbass.

This is really kind of funny. In the article, she gripes about him feigning shock at the AIG bonuses that he helped get put in. Then she goes on to feign shock herself that Geithner the long-time WS insider acts like a WS insider.
