On January 22, Representative Mike Pence (R-Indiana) introduced H.R.614, an amendment to Title X of the Public Health Service Act that would eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the controversial organization that operates abortion mills across the country.
Barack Obama should be well known for his constant votes supporting the most outrageous form of “abortion” during his tenure as a State Senator for Illinois. I put abortion in quotes because Obama’s vote against BAIPA, the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, in Illinois amounts to his support of outright infanticide and not mere abortion.
Unfortunately, Obama is not more well known for this abhorrent vote because the media failed to expose the truth of the matter during the campaign. Obama repeatedly lied about his record on abortion and the media allowed him to do so with impunity.
And now, we find the Obama administration eyeing the elimination of the “Mexico City Policy”, also known as the “family planning gag rule,” and again allow millions of American dollars to flow into the coffers of foreign abortion mills. With talk of this being one of the very first priorities for Obama’s administration, it is clear that we can expect a White House that will champion the goals of the most extreme abortion supporters in the nation.
For his part, Pence hopes to get ahead of the Obama administration’s advocacy and aims to eliminate any federal funding that is or could go to Planned Parenthood. On his House website, Pence posted the following:
Today millions of Americans–from the National Mall to prayer services in small town churches–will mark the sad 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the worst Supreme Court decision since Dred Scott.
As most Americans know, it is simply morally wrong to end an unborn human life by abortion. But it is also morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use them to promote abortion at home or abroad.
Many Americans fail to recognize the largest abortion provider in America is also the largest recipient of federal taxpayer dollars through Title X–this should not be.
Yesterday, with more than 60 cosponsors, I re-introduced the “Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act,” a bill that would deny any federal funding to Planned Parenthood of America.
On this dark anniversary, let us rededicate ourselves to protecting the unborn and to protecting taxpayers on matters of conscience.
All abortion opponents should give Representative Pence their support for this measure.

No realistic chance of getting this passed
anodized Friday, January 23rd at 7:15AM EST (link)Where was Rep. Pence prior to 2007 when the Republicans were in control of the federal government?
Probably not, but...
randy streu (Diary) Friday, January 23rd at 8:50AM EST (link)it keeps it in the public eye. The taxpayers need to understand that they are funding this group — that, in essence, Planned Parenthood is being tasked with speaking for the American taxpayer on family planning and abortion. Sometimes, the best thing a legislator can do is not in getting something passed, but in getting voters pissed off enough to start taking action.

Princeliberty Friday, January 23rd at 8:57AM EST (link)This is another thing I falted Bush on. There is no good reason
this should have not happened under Bush.
Bush and the Republican leadership did not even touch it with a 30 foot poll.
As for Pence, he talks a good talk.
But when the pressure is on he fold like a lawn chair.
He started to speak out on the wild spending while the Republicans were in power.
Hastert told him to shut up. And Pence shut up. Pence needs to get a spinal transplant.

Warner Todd Huston (Diary) Friday, January 23rd at 9:02PM EST (link)Well, you have not to worry about Pence’s “spine” if enough of us stand behind this measure. The people will have spoken and it will get done. That is why I said we should all urge our reps. to support it and stand behind Pence on this one.

Come back in 2 or 4 years. Bring conservatism with you. Maybe that should be the name of a new party, ” Conservative ” We really should have more than one party, we used to have two parties.
YES! Right On!
JHancock (Diary) Friday, January 23rd at 9:38PM EST (link)I applaud Pence on this bill. Any person that votes against it will never get another vote or contribution dollar from me. If Pence actually is able to ever get this bill passed, I will conscider him one of the top 100 politicians in American history, even if he does nothing else in his entire career.
