Oprah cries: “She talked to Greta. She talked to Matt. She talked to Larry. But she didn’t talk to me…”
Apparently, Oprah is whining that Sarah Palin won’t come on her show now that the election is over. But, who can blame Governor Palin for snubbing Oprah after the nasty things Oprah reportedly said about her before the election?
In an interview with TV tabloid schlocker Extra, Oprah acted all shocked that Palin has yet to agree to an “O” interview.
“I said I would be happy to talk to Sarah Palin when the election was over… I went and tried to talk to Sarah Palin and instead she talked to Greta [Van Susteren]. She talked to Matt [Lauer]. She talked to Larry [King]. But she didn’t talk to me. But maybe she’ll talk to me now that she has a [multi-million dollar] book deal.”
It might be remembered that back in September, Drudge reported that Oprah had been heard to say that she would never interview Sarah Palin. Not long after the Drudge flash, Oprah issued a press release where she denied the reports of the mean things she said about Palin. Oprah made some vague claim that she had “decided” not to open her show for political candidates despite the fact that she was an open participant in Barack Obama’s campaign and had the now president elect and his wife on her show several times during the campaigns.
So, now Oprah is wide eyed with shock that Palin has snubbed her thus far?
Talk about clueless! Vacuity reigns supreme in Chicago, I guess.

panthera (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:15AM EST (link)Keep snubbing! I hope all conservatives stay away from these types of shows. It will open a vacuum in which a show is needed for conservatives to visit and then people will stop watching shows like Oprah. Probably dreaming! I’d sure like these open lefties to stop getting rich.
Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.
I agree.
FJG (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 11:49AM EST (link)I second the keep snubbing recommendation.
Oprah needs to learn (or relearn) that there are consequences for putting your politics above your business. Especially when you behave hypocritically in the process. She needs to be called out and chastised for her behavior.
If I was Gov. Palin, I would publicaly state that I would be glad to appear on Oprah’s show after she publically admits and apologizes for the way she spoke about and treated Palin and for using her show to in a biased manner to blantently campaign for a political candidate. Obviously that isn’t going to happen.
So I hope Gov. Palin uses the next 4 year to develop positive working relationships with up and coming journalists/entertainment professionals. That way she can get positive media coverage from the MSM and the media professionals will be able to use their interviews with her as leverage to move up the career ladder.
I'm missing why she's surprised, myself.
Moe Lane (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:42AM EST (link)Oprah pretty much decided that she was going to involve herself in partisan politics as a Democrat. Her privilege, but unless there’s something in it for Palin the Governor has no real reason to go on Oprah’s show.

Personally I'd like to see Sarah go on all of these shows
Diogenes314 (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 11:53AM EST (link)Except Orcah Winfrey. And the LeftistView (although she could do an interview with Elizibeth what’s-her-name). Let these moronic demegouges know that if they are going to be partsan hacks during an election year, they can deal with the consequences later.
Palin should go on Winfrey's show
kowalski (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 12:16PM EST (link)I think Sarah Palin can handle the earlier snub without being bitter, and I think she’d be terrific on Oprah. Oprah’s show is watched by a lot of people from all sides of the political spectrum and everyone knows that Palin can acquit herself very well in any forum.
Oprah is past the gotchas now that she’s gotten what she really wanted, and I don’t see how Palin has anything to lose by doing it. It will be a moneymaker for Oprah and everyone else concerned. Palin’s a winner and I think she should get out there and talk about herself and her views on Oprah, and bring her a “Moose Hunting Awesome” T-shirt. She’s a winner.
My preference would be for her to do it before the inauguration, but that’s probably not going to happen. Afterward would be fine, though.

Why I disagree with Moe
kowalski (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 12:32PM EST (link)I think there’s something to be said for sour grapes, and Oprah wasn’t about to host Palin on the show until Barack Obama was the President, but the past is the past.
The fact is that Oprah recognizes (she’s a smart woman) that Sarah Palin isn’t just a flash in the pan. I don’t see the wisdom in Palin returning a snub with a snub. It’s not Christian, first of all. Secondly, Palin has nothing to be afraid of from Oprah Winfrey. They can talk about expensive clothing and why women under intense public scrutiny might wear the clothes other people bought for them when they have to look nice for the cameras. Then they can talk about what motivates Palin and what really brought her to public service and led her to accept McCain’s invitation.
Oprah Winfrey at this point should be in the mood to be a very magnanimous hostess, and I just don’t see the downside in having Palin on the show to speak to the millions of women who understand that she represents a different version of a feminist than the Metropolitan version — and like her because of that.
It’s a big country, and there are a lot of different ways to live here. Sarah Palin doesn’t have anything to be afraid of by going on Oprah’s show, and I think Oprah might find that a lot of the women in her audience appreciate the difference.

It's the precedent
Diogenes314 (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 12:50PM EST (link)I would like to see prominent GOP leaders start making some of these partisan hacks pay for their unprofessionalism. MSNBC wants to be the new Pravda? Fine. Boycott them and NBC when it comes to interviews. CNN wants to be partisan? Good night, Larry King. We don’t need to solely give buieness to FOX, but we should make them at least pretend to be unbiased, and let those who don’t bother pay the price.
You say petty snub, I say positive strategy.
True enough but the eyeballs matter
kowalski (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 12:59PM EST (link)The fact is that Oprah Winfrey’s show is the premiere vehicle for reaching millions of American women in the daytime talk show format and that’s not going to change for at least several years.
Palin really should go on the show and talk about how unfair the and mean-spirited all the talk about her wardrobe was. $150,000 worth of clothes she didn’t own and didn’t buy for herself were portrayed by the New York Times as some kind of Republican dirty trick. She should go on the show and say:
“You know what? Oprah and I both know that when the cameras are on you 24/7, the clothes matter. That’s why I wore them and that’s why I’ve also sent them back.”
I just don’t see the upside in “protecting” Sarah Palin from….Oprah Winfrey. I think having Palin on the show would mark a new era in substantive discussion of different points of view.
And look at it this way: they’re both successful women in their own right, with huge name recognition. Oprah runs the entire Hemisphere of Harpo, and Sarah Palin runs the State of Alaska.
Don’t you think that would make for great TV?

Oprah's in a different universe
kowalski (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:02PM EST (link)She’s in a different universe from the other “partisan hacks” because she’s the single biggest thing on female-centric talk TV in the United States. She’s just in a different echelon, has a much bigger throw-weight, and a huge footprint. I actually think it would be a mistake if Palin didn’t go on the show and let Oprah’s publicists portray that as a “sore loser” move.

And what would REALLY be fun...
kowalski (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:07PM EST (link)I’m talking the Must See TV of the Women’s Talk Show Millenium…
Would be if Palin was hosted by both Oprah Winfrey ** and ** Camille Paglia was on the set, also.
Now that would be something worth watching on television, for once.

It's not about ""protecting" Palin
Diogenes314 (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:20PM EST (link)And I don’t care what universe that blowhard Winfrey thinks she’s in. If Sarah goes on Rachel Ray’s or Ellen Degenerate’s show, who do you think will have higher ratings-them or Orcah? Sarah doesn’t need The Most Famous Woman In The World to get ratings, she just has to show up.
As far as the ‘sore loser’ spin-if they try that, who really looks like a crybaby?
If you want to quote Voltaire
kowalski (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:30PM EST (link)If you want to quote Voltaire, you should understand that the perfect shouldn’t be the enemy of the good. Sarah Palin going on Oprah Winfrey and talking about her views isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty good.
A year ago, Sarah Palin couldn’t have gotten a spot on anyone’s day time talk show. I think it would be a big mistake for her not to go on Oprah’s now, if the arrangements can be made.

Diogenes314 (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:44PM EST (link)There IS no long term good to enabling partisan egomanics unnessecarily. And it isn’t a year ago. Sarah is in the driver’s seat. Just let Winfrey whine and pout-now that’s entertainment.
Agreed!

No, not really, because
kowalski (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:20PM EST (link)Because I think Sarah Palin being on television having a discussion with Oprah Winfrey is a net positive all by itself. I don’t mind the fact that Oprah’s show would be the venue, who cares?

Any positive is short term.

Don't cut off your nose
kowalski (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:51PM EST (link)Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. Trying to “punish” Oprah Winfrey is a little like trying to “punish” a chocolate bulldozer while it’s dieseling over you. It doesn’t work, the bulldozer is much bigger and heavier than you are, and it’s just going to grind a lot of chocolate in your mouth while it mashes you into the ground, on its way to Candyland.
I think it’s much better to be on the bulldozer or at least out of its path.

Who cares, Kowalski? I do, a part of that supposed
janis (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 2:09PM EST (link)woman demographic. Oprah has slid leftward for years now and has lost any right-leaning and many centist viewers in the process. When much of the population was living large over the past 10 years and there was lots of money flying around, Oprah was a credible talk host.
Now that that is no longer the case and she has outed herself as being an Obamaphile to the nth degree, Sarah Palin should avoid association with her like the plague. There’s going to be a backlash to hugely rich people in the months/years ahead of us, and those who helped to put Obama into office are going to live to regret that decision.
That backlash is also going to help politicians like Sarah Palin. She’s one of us, not someone who grew up in a political dynasty with servants and help every step of the way. This is all just my gut feeling based on what’s going on right now. Still, Sarah owes Oprah nothing and I would hate to see her kowtow to that woman.
I care about it as well janis....I do not want Sarah...
JadedByPolitics (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 2:10PM EST (link)to go on that cow’s show! I would be part of that demographic too!

Why should she?
lawhite (Diary) Sunday, December 7th at 4:42PM EST (link)Oprah sure has an overinflated image of herself if she thinks Palin needs her for anything! I understand Oprah has lost a lot of viewers since she began snubbing Palin. And Fox’s ratings have gone up tremendously since supporting her.
