ALERT! Senator Obama has thrown off his campaign plane the members of the press representing the New York Post, Washington Times and Dallas Morning News — papers that endorsed John McCain for president. According to an exclusive from Drudge this happened yesterday night, Oct. 30.
As Drudge has it, some are saying that the Obama campaign is trying to “make room” for network bigwigs and a documentary crew attempting to cover Obama’s last remaining days on the campaign trail.
Now, let me recap a paragraph from Obama’s plea to the nutroots to play nice:
But to the degree that we brook no dissent within the Democratic Party, and demand fealty to the one, “true” progressive vision for the country, we risk the very thoughtfulness and openness to new ideas that are required to move this country forward.
But, is throwing off his plane journalists that disagree with him an example of Barack “reaching across the aisle”? Is this his idea of a “new” politics, one of “bipartisan” principles? Dissent from his positions and be banished???
I guess Obama’s intention to play nice and doing away with “brooking no dissent” is suddenly not so important when one wants to win the White House. Let’s “get in their face,” instead, eh Senator Obama?

Maureen Dowd would be the first one to get pushed out of the door, perhaps without a chute (note that the Drudge article points out that Dowd got booted from McCain’s plane/bus/whatever a few years back)
The more interesting aspect of it is who he’s replacing them with – reporters from Jet and Essence. More race politics by the “post-racist” Messiah. Imagine what would happen if McCain booted the NYT and LAT in favor of Christianity Today…

and here I thought reporters were supposed to be separate from the editorial page…silly me.

IJB Friday, October 31st at 10:25AM EST (link)I agree with you – if I were running a presidential campaign like McCain’s, I too wouldn’t have a lot of Legacy Media outlets on my plane either.
The difference is I wouldn’t have had them from the start (i.e. like back in 2007!).
The fact that Obama is doing this now, specifically after these papers endorsed McCain, speaks to something very significant about Obama, his people, and how they treat dissent.
There is no question that Obama’s Administration will take extreme measures to stifle dissent if they take office. (The Fairness Doctrine would be the tip of the iceberg – I have no doubt they will attempt to shut down the internet (even Kos!) and FNC (and maybe even CNN too!!) once they get in.)
That’s the important point here.

A larger point: Don’t be surprised if an Obama surrogate eventually brands the booted journalists’ publications as “appealing to racists”.

Does it even need to be pointed out that the Washington Times’ Insight Magazine was the original source for the “Obama attended a Madrassa and was raised as a Muslim” smear? Subsequently debunkedby CNN?
That is one of the key reasons to this very day that many people believe that Obama is some kind of “secret” Muslim.
The folks at Free Republic are celebrating the fact that almost 1 in 4 Texans believe that Obama is a Muslim. They simply can’t get enough.
So, no, I am hardly shocked that Obama booted them.

Obama has been promising the Democratic party since the primaries he would flip red states like LA, GA, NC and VA by getting black voters to turn out in record numbers. So, a couple of journalists had to be removed to bring in the black publications. Just like Obama waited until after the NC primary to disown Rev. Wright. It will be a close election.
