Iran is kicking up its heels again. This time the Islamic Republic - a half-truth, as Iran is Islamic but is not a republic, being instead effectively a theocratic dictatorship - is reported to be coordinating with their Hezbollah puppets to carry out an attack on the Jewish holiday of Tisha B'Av, the Jewish day of disasters.

Western intelligence sources told Sky News Arabia that they had evidence Iran plans to attack Israel on Tisha B’Av in response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, which begins on August 12 and ends on August 13, the site reported on Friday.

Iran’s attack will reportedly be coordinated with Hezbollah, an Iran-backed terror group embedded in Lebanon.

On Tisha B’Av, Jews lament the destruction of the first and second Temples. During the annual event, there is fasting, mourning and a practice of self-denial.

Ismail Haniyeh was un-alived by an explosive device placed in a guesthouse room in Teheran that Haniyeh was known to use. Israel has not claimed responsibility for this act that changed Haniyeh's pronouns to "over here" and "over there."

Iran has a long, long history of causing trouble in the region, including supplying arms and aid to groups like Hamas. If Hezbollah is indeed to be involved in this supposed planned attack, it will only be possible because of Iranian support.

It's unclear what Iran hopes to gain by leaking the details of this attack in advance. As the article linked above notes:

Three sources told the New York Times that Iran planned to respond to the assassination of Haniyeh. The sentiment was echoed by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khameini on X who wrote “Following this bitter, tragic event which has taken place within the borders of the Islamic Republic, it is our duty to take revenge.”

The report indicates that there is an emotional and psychological impact in targeting Israel on the holy day of mourning.

The report claimed that Jewish Israelis may feel particularly vulnerable on this day - adding an additional layer of psychological torment.

The Jewish Israelis may feel vulnerable on this day, but it's also extremely likely that any Iranian forces will be feeling vulnerable as well, as their prior announcement of these plans will doubtlessly result in the entire Israel Defense Forces waiting for them on the first day of Tisha B'Av.

All this raises the question, will this be a serious attack, when Iran finally decides to toss in all their chips and attempt to engage Israel in a full-blown war? Or will this be a largely symbolic attack, like the one last April, where the Iranians launched a large number of drones and missiles that were almost all shot down by the Israeli forces? If it's the former, it's important to note that the Iranians have a history of their mouths writing checks their aftmost body parts can't cash. If the latter, well, then it's another business-as-usual day for the world's foremost state sponsor of terrorism.
