Five or six years ago a guy hired me to see how much money he’d swindled people out of… he’d already plead guilty to a federal securities violation and he’d get 3 months shorter sentence if I could prove it was less than $180,000. Less than $180K and the guideline gave him 3 months less time.

I demanded $5K up front and got half that. His lawyer cheated me out of the rest.

Ultimately I found out he got more than $180K. He didn’t get any credit for what he’d already paid back, which makes sense, you wouldn’t let a bank robber off if he gave the money back. My guy’s sentence was enhanced due to a DUI conviction 30 years earlier. That seemed like an awful blow to fairness at the time, but once incarcerated, my felon (who was now a virtual tea-totaller) completed a drug and alcohol program that took one year off his sentence.

Is this a great country or what?

The whole fabricated “Republican Culture of Corruption” talking point doesn’t seem to be working really well for the Dems these days.

But then, I’m sure they have plenty of other inane and disingenuous talking points to trot out in lieu of any actual factual discussions.

If it weren't for the hurricane and abusing the Guard, do you think he'd have been rung up at all? I guess he was already under investigation about stuff in his freezer , but his behavior just after Katrina was really weird.
