What makes these politicians think they can vastly re-engineer entire sectors of the economy?

"Anything I do not understand must be easy."

They are incompetent and unqualified to do this.

I would guess it's also unconstitutional.

but in a down cycle, the last thing that should be done is for the government to try and "fix" it, especially by adding huge debt, bailouts, etc. In this economic cycle, it probably would have been better to let some of the companies fail, and let the economy recover on its own. We seem to be in this mindset that for everything that happens, we demand the government "do something", in my opinion, doing nothing would have been better.

I believe the left is willing to "put up with" a higher unemployment rate as long as they get what they really want; a socialist style of economy. Just look at Europe, they have government run healthcare, powerful unions, high taxes, and higher unemployment.

but doesn't the economy have cycles just like anything else: seasons, global temperatures, etc? Why do the "experts" think that everything has to be "great" all the time, and if it is not-so-great right now, it will never be in the future -- unless they fix it, of course.
