Make sure he/she understands that their only job is to look good, and put somebody who is competent and ruthless in charge in a Special Assistant or similar position that doesn't have to face confirmation. Works better when you have a majority in the legislative body so you don't have to worry about your figurehead being hailed up for hearings, but that's not that big a deal. At this rate, pretty soon all the cabinet members will report to an unvetted Czar appointee of the President. When did we revert to a monarchy or acquiesce to a dictatorship? I find it interesting how in a group of their own peers they freely offer their viewpoints, but once the light is shining on them they scamper away like rats under a more dissenting discussion.
