I am A Certified Financial Planner and independant voter who is stunned by what I am seeing. Perhaps never before has the independant held such sway in a critical election. However, to cast our vote effectively it is neccessary to understand what is happening on the economic front. During the last two decades of the 21st century, America experienced a monumental economic expansion. This event took place regardless of party in power. During an extended expansion,our view of risk changes. Consumers generally overspend, believing that their income will only go up. Business overproduce, thinking that their only risk is “not having enough stuff to sell.” These excesses create the bubble effect, and twenty years of expansion created severe bubbles, regardless of Dem. or Repub. who have actually shared power during this most recent period. Fed policy does not create the cycle but can affect the severity and duration. The Democrats want us to believe that lowering taxes somehow caused the economy to shift into cyclical contraction, when in fact there is no shred of evidence to suggest this causality. It is well known amoung economists that lower taxes is an economic stimulus, even the Dems. know this since they passed two “stimulus tax rebates.” The simple fact of the matter is that the economy was going to recess due to the economic cycle, and it would have been MUCH WORSE had we also had the drag of higher corporate taxes, as proposed by Sen.Obama. While raising taxes during a cyclically EXPANDING economy may meet the stated goal of deficit reduction, to further assault struggling business during an economic contraction would be nothing short of a disaster.
